Corvette Racing is in California this week as the American Le Mans Series returns to Monterey and the famed Mazda Raceway at Laguna Seca. After two races this year, the standings are tight with Chevrolet owning just a 3 point lead over BMW in the Manufacturers Championship. Last year, the Yellow and Black Corvette C6.Rs had tremendous success with a 1-2 finish in GT. Will they be able to repeat in Saturday’s 4 hour race into darkness?
Monterey, CA. May 9, 2013 – When teams and drivers return to a track where they have previously enjoyed success, it sparks a heightened sense of anticipation heading into the event. For the drivers and crew members of the No.’s 3 and 4 Compuware Corvette C6.Rs, this weekend’s four-hour American Le Mans Series (ALMS) Monterey at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca means a return to the site of a 1-2 Corvette Racing finish in 2012.
One of the most popular seminars at Corvette Museum’s Bash is the one featuring members of the factory-backed Corvette Racing Team. This year the seminar featured Corvette Racing’s Program Manager Doug Fehan, driver of the #4 Corvette C6.R Tommy Milner and the #3 Corvette C6.Rs Crew Chief Dan Binks.
The trio talk about the ins and outs of the current season which started with a win at Sebring and then a 4th and 5th place finish at Long Beach. Doug talks for just a few minutes and then the team then takes questions from the audience.
(LONG BEACH, Calif., April 20, 2013) – Corvette Racing scored two top-five finishes at Long Beach to maintain a share of the lead in the American Le Mans Series (ALMS) Manufacturer Standings through the first two races of the season.
Tommy Milner and Oliver Gavin, drove the No. 4 Compuware Corvette C6.R to a fourth-place finish in the GT class in the two-hour Tequila Patron American Le Mans Series at Long Beach on the 1.968-mile, 11-turn street circuit. (LONG BEACH, Calif., April 19, 2013) – Corvette Racing returns to where its championship season in 2012 earned its first of four victories: The 1.968-mile, 11-turn Long Beach Street Circuit.
Oliver Gavin and Tommy Milner, co-drivers of the No. 4 Compuware Corvette C6.R, won at Long Beach last year en route to the Team and Driver championships. It was their first victory as a team, and Milner’s first victory in the American Le Mans Series.
This weekend the world’s most exotic racers and sports car manufacturers will face off on the streets of Long Beach in southern California. One of most popular stops in the ALMS, Long Beach is a 2 hour sprint through the city where one wrong move can have devastating consequences. Corvette Racing finished 1st and 4th in 2012 and the #4 Corvette C6.R is coming off a win at last month’s 12 Hours of Sebring. Can they repeat their success again this weekend?
Last week while in route to the New York Auto Show, I took with me the new mystery novel Braking Points from Tammy Kaehler. This is her second novel and once again features Kate Reilly, a female Corvette race car driver in the American Le Mans Series. If you root for the Corvette C6.Rs and like a good mystery, then hit the jump and I’ll tell you all about it!
