Rick Hendrick Buys the VIN 001 Collection of 1955-1957 Corvettes at Barrett Jackson


You might say Rick Hendrick loves being No. 1.

At least when it comes to owning collector cars.

Hendrick, of course, is well known for buying the first production models of new generations of Corvettes and Camaros, but last week he took a turn toward the No. 1s of the past, buying a trio of VIN 001 Collection of Corvettes from 1955, 1956, and 1957 for a cool $1.65 million during the Barrett-Jackson Auction in Scottsdale, Ariz.

1968 L88 Corvette Sells for $330,000 at Barrett-Jackson Las Vegas


On Saturday evening at Barrett-Jackson’s Las Vegas auction, this red/red 1968 L88 Corvette found a new home for the low, low price of $330,000. That’s somewhat surprising given the fact that other 1968 L88 Corvettes have sold for quite a bit more at recent sales.

So what may have caused this prized performance sports car to stumble at BJLV?

Barrett-Jackson’s fourth and final collector car auction in 2015 will be held next week in Las Vegas, Sept. 24-26th. For a town that was built on gambling and is known for inducing visitors to make risky decisions with their cash, there is a sure-bet coming to town and it carries the legendary performance moniker known as the L88 Corvette.

The initial 6-hour race format was expanded to 12 hours in 1952 and now, some 63 years later, it remains as one of the world’s top sports car endurance races. The latest Twelve Hours of Sebring begins at 10:40 a.m. on March 21, 2015 when 47 cars will take the green flag for 12 hours of non-stop, door-to-door racing.
