While pulling up to the Goldenrod, Florida post office on Monday, 72 year old Ruth Lawyer tried to brake but mistakenly hit the gas pedal which plunged her 1-month-old 2012 Velocity yellow Corvette coupe into the front of the facility.
Road & Track magazine has been testing Corvettes ever since the first one was built nearly 60 years ago.
But they may have outdone themselves with their current test of “every last single solitary new Corvette you can possibly buy. Or at least every version with a 6-speed manual and lots of options.”
Last weekend marked our annual pilgrimage to Cobo Hall in downtown Detroit for the yearly festival of chrome and horsepower known as Autorama. Each year thousands of attendees wander aisle after aisle checking out the custom cars, trucks, motorcycles, and hot rods. This year was the 60th installment of the show.

In a post a few weeks ago, I talked about the fast approaching deadlines for the 2012 Corvette model year and introductory information for the 2013 Corvette model year.
Well, deadlines are not always accurate so don’t wait too long. Here’s what I mean. The color Carlisle Blue was scheduled to have its last order date on Thursday 02/09/12. However, when orders opened up that day, there were ZERO Carlisle Blue cars available nationwide. If you didn’t get your order in a week early, you were out of luck!
Motor Trend’s newest web show is called “Head2Head” and its all about comparisions of two similar cars. In the premiere episode, MT editor Angus Mackenzie compares the 2012 Corvette Grand Sport to the all new 2012 Porsche 911 Carrera S. While it’s obvious from the beginning that Mackenzie has a favorite (and it’s not the Corvette), the “Head2Head” video still features some great eye candy as well as a hefty dose of the Corvette’s mighty 436-hp V8.
The 1961 Corvette Gulf Oil race car was one of the centerpieces of Mecum’s 2012 Kissimmee auction and it drew massive attention when it hit the auction block Saturday afternoon. Bidding on the Grady Davis Gulf Oil-sponsored Corvette was fast and furious at the beginning but eventually stalled at $850,000 and the car went unsold. The reserve was undisclosed and the auctioneer only said that it would take “more”.
Chevrolet is ready to kick off the GRAND-AM Racing 2012 season as five new Corvette Daytona Prototypes are ready for their first combat mission at this weekend’s Rolex 24 at the Daytona International Speedway. The five Corvette DPs will allow Chevrolet to challenge for the overall win at the Rolex 24 for the first time in 11 years. Also competing at the Rolex 24 under the Team Chevy banner are three Camaros running in the GT class.
Over the past six years, Car and Driver has brought 115 production cars to Virginia International Raceway (VIR) 4.1 mile Grand West Course. The result is an American-style Nurburgring-like timed lap test called the Lightning Lap. Currently, the 2010 Corvette ZR1 sits 4th fastest on the list with only a Viper ACR and two Moslers that have run faster. We were excited to see how the 2012 Corvette ZR1 tested with the new Michelin Pilot Sport Cup tires would compare to its previous lap time and the results do not disappoint.
