[PICS] General Motors Shows off Restoration Progress on the 1 Millionth Corvette

General Motors Tuesday showed off their restoration progress on the 1 millionth Corvette which fell into the National Corvette Museum sinkhole in February 2014. This is the first time the car has been seen by the public since it left the museum in April of this year. They plan to have all of the work completed in time to return it to the NCM for their 21st birthday celebration Labor Day weekend.

General Motors to Restore the 1992 'One Millionth' Corvette Rescued from Sinkhole

When Humpty Dumpty took his big tumble a few years back, all the King’s horses and all the King’s men couldn’t put Humpty together again. Well, the King obviously didn’t choose the right people for the job—he should have contacted the talented craft workers of the Design Fabrication Operation at General Motors’ Global Design Center in Warren, Mich.

You see, in addition to their normal duties fabricating and assembling many of GM’s top design study vehicles and futuristic show cars, they have undertaken a task akin to putting Humpty back together—restoring to its previous glory, the 1 Millionth Corvette convertible that was heavily damaged when it was swallowed by the National Corvette Museum’s sinkhole back in February.

Work continued today on the sinkhole inside the National Corvette Museum after three of the eight Corvettes were rescuing earlier this week. Although the next recoveries were not expected to happen for a few weeks while the crew reinforces the Sky Dome Spire, the opportunity arose today to grab not one but two more Corvettes, the 1992 1 Millionth Corvette and the 1984 PPG Pace Car.
