NASCAR Team owner and Chevy dealer Rick Hendrick visited the National Corvette Museum yesterday to pick up several of the new Corvettes he purchased from GM through various Barrett-Jackson auctions. He also brought two vintage Corvette racers from his personal collection to show off as well. Several of the cars he picked up were unique 1 of 1 Corvettes including one that was news to us.
LG Motorsports founder Lou Gigliotti and his 2010 Corvette ZR1 dominated last month’s Spectre 341 Hill Climb with the overall win and setting a record for the fastest Corvette. Lou released a new video of the run today complete with his signature multi-camera view with some awesome telemetry thrown in for good measure.

We stopped by Corvette Hospitality Day last Saturday at Waterford Hills Raceway just north of Detroit. The annual event is sponsored by Cauley Performance Automotive, Southern Motors, and DJ Race Enterprise. The relaxing day gives Corvette aficionados the opportunity to chat with other enthusiasts, drive some parade laps on the track, and to just sit back and enjoy some great local club racing featuring, of course, Corvettes in addition to a few other classes.

It’s one of our favorite times of the year as GM releases the final production statistics for the 2011 model year. As we told you at the beginning of the month, GM’s wrapped up production of the 2011 Corvette in June and the final count for all Corvettes produced in the 2011 model year was 13,596. That was an 11.5% increase over the 12,194 Corvettes sold during the 2010 model year.
High-Speed Canadian Circuit Favors the Brave and Suits Corvette Racing’s Strengths
BOWMANVILLE, Ontario, Canada, July 19, 2011 – America is the home of the brave, but that description also applies to a twisting ribbon of asphalt in the Canadian countryside. Mosport International Raceway, a legendary circuit that will host Sunday’s Mobil 1 presents the Grand Prix of Mosport, separates the brave from the meek with its sweeping turns and soaring speeds.
A woman suspected of driving her Corvette under the influence caused a major accident in Lodi, California over the weekend. In the early morning hours of July 17, the unidentified woman was driving a 2011 Velocity Yellow Corvette Grand Sport Convertible at over 90 miles per hour when she broadsided a 1994 Pontiac Bonneville at the intersection of Lower Sacramento Road and Kettleman Lane/Highway 12.
It seems our new favorite tuners in Houston have a thing for LS9 crate motors. We featured Fastlane last week as wicked photos of a Chevy Silverado with an LS9 surfaced on their facebook page. Now we’ve got some photos of another LS9 install, this one more appropriate as the supercharged 6.2 liter V8 finds a new home in a classic 1971 Corvette.
