Inspiring racer Sam Schmidt returns to the track Saturday to face legendary Mario Andretti at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

Schmidt has been paralyzed from the chest down for more than 17 years after a racing accident at Walt Disney World Speedway.

Thanks to the specially modified SAM (Semi-Autonomous Motorcar) Corvette, though, he has been able to use technology to drive again, despite his paralysis.

A new tradition started a few ago at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway is to run a IndyCar race on the 2.439-mile road course as a warm-up to the Indianapolis 500 race that is held on Memorial Day weekend. This year, the fourth annual Verizon IndyCar Grand Prix takes place on Saturday, May 13th and a Corvette Stingray was selected as the Pace Car for that event.

Selected to drive the Arctic White Stingray Pace Car is retired Indianapolis Colts linebacker Robert Mathis, who spend his entire 14-year in the NFL playing for the team.

Someone is going to get a bargain for a piece of Corvette racing history this weekend at the Auctions America sale in Auburn Spring, Indiana.

Officials there are forecasting that an actual 2003 safety pace car for the 24 Hours of Le Mans will fetch between $25,000 to $30,000 at the auction.

DETROIT (May 9, 2017) – Corvette Racing’s 18th consecutive appearance at the 24 Hours of Le Mans will feature a lineup of six drivers, each with victories in the famed French endurance event. In addition to full-season drivers Antonio Garcia, Jan Magnussen, Oliver Gavin and Tommy Milner, Corvette Racing adds Jordan Taylor and Marcel Fässler to its roster for the June 17-18 race with a pair of Mobil 1/SiriusXM Chevrolet Corvette C7.Rs for the GTE Pro class.
