Corvette Racing Program Manager Doug Fehan visited the set of Autoline After Hours on Thursday evening. This is an extensive one-hour interview featuring John McElroy, host of Autoline Daily and Autoline Detroit. Also joining in the conversation is the Autoextremist Peter De Lorenzo and David Welch from BusinessWeek and Bloomberg News.
GM’s new commercial features CEO Ed Whitacre walking through an auto plant as he tells us that GM has repaid its government loans five years ahead of schedule. The commercial shows many of the successful cars and trucks in the GM lineup with a heavy dose of Malibu. At one point during Whitacre’s stroll, you can see what we think is a Cyber Gray Corvette ZR1 in the background. Although relegated to the role of extra, we appreciate that Corvette was in the mix, however briefly. Check out the video after the jump.
Tom Wallace knows Corvettes. As a former Vehicle Line Executive for General Motors and Corvette Chief Engineer, he was at the wheel when the ZR1 Corvette was born, giving the world a 638 horsepower, 200+ mph, American-made super-car. Today, he’s working on a new chapter of motorsports history and teaming up with the National Corvette Museum to promote and develop a 400-acre Motorsports Park.
Here is a beautiful Callaway Speedster that is listed for sale over at Fantasy Junction. This 1999 Corvette C12 Callaway Speedster is one of only two C12 speedsters produced and the execution of this special purpose-built Corvette is by far one of the best I’ve ever seen. Kirk Bennion – GM’s Corvette Exterior Design Engineer – attended the 30th Annual Corvette Beach Caravan and Car Show in Panama City hosted by the Circle City Corvette Club at the end of March. In his presentation, Kirk shows the evolving design of the Corvette that became the 2011 Corvette Z06 Carbon Edition. You’ll see a couple of designs that didn’t make the cut as well as learn how the movie “Underworld” played a role in creating the overall look of the Z06 Carbon.

Corvette Racing driver Johnny O’Connell was one of five drivers named to represent the green racing initiatives of the American Le Mans Series. Each of the five drivers named to the Green Dream Team represent one of the five various alternative fuels being used in the ALMS.
Some collectors will say that when it comes to Early C1 Corvettes (1953-55) the 1954 Corvette is the red-headed step child compared with the 300 1953 Corvettes produced the year earlier or the 700 V8-powered 1955 that came a year after. Truth be told, the 1954 Corvette featured a number of upgrades over its model year predecessor that improved fit and finish during assembly as well as improved drivability and comfort.
Jan Magnussen proves again why he is the best closer in the ALMS. At the halfway point of the American Le Mans Series at Long Beach, Magnussen left the pits in 6th position and battled all the way to finish in 2nd place, just four seconds behind the class winning #45 Fancy Lizards Porsche driven by Pat Long and Joerg Bergmeister.
