Corvette Enthusiast Is Latest Casualty in Automotive Magazine Consolidation

Corvette Enthusiast becomes the latest Corvette magazine to close shop and merge with one of its sister publications. That’s according to an email that was sent on Friday to article contributors by Amos Automotive Publishing. The email announced a new title from Amos called Auto Enthusiast and then dropped the bomb that its seven automotive niche publications which include titles aimed at Corvette, Chevy, Mustang, Mopar and Pontiac enthusiasts would be consolidated under the new title.

One of the main draws to the various Cars & Coffee events held around the country is the mass exodus of the various classic and exotic sports cars. Some play it cool and cruise off while others lay down some rubber to the delight of the crowd. Enter this White C6 Corvette whose burnout is classified as a FAIL when he looses control and nearly takes out some of the crowd.

Corvette Museum to Host One Lap of Kentucky Road Tour

The One Lap of Kentucky Road Tour is the National Corvette Museum’s latest in a series of driving and touring events. This inaugural event kicks off October 12th for a five day site-seeing tour of some of Kentucky’s well-known attractions. Leading the tour will be the Kentucky State Police who are using the event to raise funds for Trooper Island, a youth camp supported by the KSP.

[VIDEO] Radio Host Assembles His Own LS9 Corvette Engine

Earlier this week, radio host Todd Schnitt became the first consumer to participate in the Corvette Engine Build Experience which allowed him to assemble his own engine that will then be installed in his new 2011 Corvette ZR1 at the Bowling Green Assembly Plant. Here is a video of Schnitt assembling his supercharged 638-horsepower engine and some of his comments regarding the engine build program.

The American Le Mans Series will join the IZOD IndyCar series for a “Festival of Speed” in Baltimore over Labor Day weekend in 2011. At the live announcement in Baltimore, Corvette Racing’s Johhny O’Connell spoke briefly on behalf of the series. It’s a quick clip, but O’Connell is as humorous as ever.

Check out this excellent recap of Corvettes at Carlisle by Stu Schwartzapfel, who writes for the Man on the Move blog. In addition to describing the sites and sounds of Carlisle in detail, Stu tells the story of being on the hunt for a 1965 Fuelie. After finding a likely candidate, he ran into Corvette Repair’s Kevin Mackay whose quick look-over discovered some inconsistencies.

Corvette Racing made waves when they announced a shake up in the drivers lineup two days before racing at Mosport. Olivier Beretta discusses his shift to the #3 Corvette C6.R where he joined Johnny O’Connell. Program Manager Doug Fehan tells us the change is an effort to minimize setups on the GT Corvette, which he called “sensitive to change”.

GM Trademarks the “Stingray” Name

GM Trademarks the

Earlier this year in May, GM filed a trademark with the US Patent and Trademark Office for the name “Stingray” for use on “motor land vehicles, namely, automobiles”. This is leading to speculation that GM may be registering the name in advanced of launching the C7 Corvette which is expected sometime between 2012-2014.
