[PICS] Corvette Racing at the 24 Hours of Le Mans

The 82nd Edition of the 24 Hours of Le Mans featured all the drama and excitement that we’ve come to expect from the Super Bowl of road racing. But this year was a bit more special for Corvette enthusiasts who watched Corvette Racing’s new C7.Rs make their debut on the world stage. After 24 hours of hard racing, the C7.Rs finished 2nd and 4th in the GTE Pro class with the checkered flag belonging to Ferrari.

The Bid Goes On for the Featured Corvettes at Mecum's Seattle Auction

Overall Mecum’s first trip to Seattle was met with an over flow of enthusiastic bidders and collectors. Mecum obviously worked overtime to offer their customers a varied assortment of excellent collector cars. When the curtain came down Mecum had to be pleased with their initial foray into the Pacific Northwest setting a world’s record for a muscle car when a 1971 Plymouth Hemi Cuda was hammered for $3.5M. It was obviously a muscle car market since it definitely was not a Corvette market.

Mecum put together a dynamite docket of outstanding investment level Corvettes for their introductory event in the Northwest and though there was strong bidding for a some of the Corvettes, the majority of bids did not meet the consignor’s reserves and 65% of all Corvettes offered over the two day event went unsold and none of the four featured Corvettes sold.

Another indication of disappointing results for Corvettes was the fact only one Corvette was able to make the top-ten list, a 1958 restomod. That is almost unheard of for the world’s largest Corvette seller who typically has almost half of the top ten occupied by America’s sports car.

Garcia, Magnussen, Taylor lead Corvette Racing effort with GTE Pro podium

LE MANS, France (June 15, 2014) – The new Chevrolet Corvette C7.R is a podium finisher in its debut at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Antonio Garcia, Jan Magnussen and Jordan Taylor were runners- up in the GTE Pro class in Corvette Racing’s No. 73 Corvette C7.R thanks to late-race heroics by the trio.

Al Unser Jr., Peter Klutt and a L88 Corvette win Legends Pro-Am at Indy

Two-time Indy 500 winner Al Unser Jr. once again visited Victory Lane at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, this time at the wheel of a 1969 Corvette and in the company of co-driver Peter Klutt. The two were victorious in the Indy Legends Pro-Am race, the feature race of the inaugural Brickyard Vintage Racing Invitational.

Corvette Racing at Le Mans: Spirit of Le Mans Award for Fehan

Receives prestigious honor from Le Mans governing body

DETROIT (June 13, 2014) – Corvette Racing Program Manager Doug Fehan is presented with the Spirit of Le Mans award today from the Automobile Club de l’Ouest – the sporting authority of the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Fehan, who oversees the Corvette Racing program on behalf of Chevrolet, received the honor the day before the start of the 82nd running of Le Mans.
