C7 Corvette Update in March 2011 Car and Driver

Car and Driver magazine has the following update on the next-generation C7 Corvette:

“The Corvette continues as front-engine, V-8 powered, but GM is reportedly working to reduce mass (or at least hold the line) to maintain C6 performance. Slightly longer than before, the C7 will have styling allegedly inspired by the split-widow ’63 Sting Ray. Interior quality, not a Corvette strength, is now a high priority, and GM has set Audi as the benchmark for materials and fits. Three versions will be offered: base, Z06 and ZR1 (base versions may be called Grand Sport). At launch, the V-8 portfolio will mirror today’s, ranging from 430 to 638 horsepower. Later, all three engines will undergo displacement reductions to improve fuel economy.”

Barrett-Jackson 2011: Corvette Sales Top $10 Million at Scottsdale Auction Photo Credit: Mat Jones

Barrett-Jackson wrapped up their week-long collector car auction last Sunday and when all was said and done, Corvette sales totaled $10.89 million. Prices seem to returning to “normal” (if you can classify a Barrett-Jackson sale as normal) after a couple of down years due to the poor economy. But most of all, we liked the selection of the 138 Corvettes available which was the highest we can remember at the Scottsdale auction in some time.

Corvettes on Craigslist: Los Homies Selling a 257K Mile 1984 Corvette

At one time, this 1984 Corvette was the pinnacle of automotive design. Introduced in 1983, the newly redesigned C4 Corvette took the world by storm. Over 51,000 coupes were produced with an MSRP of around $22,000. Unfortunately, time hasn’t been all that good for early C4 Corvettes as today you can find them pretty cheap. That brings us to this $3,000 White 1984 Corvette that is no doubt being used to class up the for sale inventory at Los Homies Auto Sales in Columbus, Ohio.

[ACCIDENTS] C4 Corvette Hits Patch of Ice, Lands in Pool

The driver of this C4 Corvette took a cold winter’s dip in a backyard pool after spinning out on a patch of ice. The accident occured in the Chicago suburb of Woodridge. Luckily the Corvette’s driver is okay but his car had to be pulled out of the pool by heavy machinery.

Does the depth of the pool qualify this Corvette for membership in the Polar Bear Club?

The first American guru of fitness Jack LaLanne passed away over the weekend. He was 96 years old. No doubt that clean living and lots of exercise will go along way, but there was more to Jack than fitness. LaLanne was a lifelong Corvette owner and they were the favorites of his car collection. If you remember the big man with the skinny waist doing amazing feats of fitness on black and white television, check out Scott Teeter’s Corvette Report for more on this famous Corvette owner.

Vette Magazine interviewed Jack and he talks about his love of Corvettes.

Rest in peace, Jack. You’ve earned it!
