As part of the NCRS national convention last week we were able to participate in a tour of GM’s Performance Build Center. The facility is located about an hour northwest of Detroit in Wixom, MI. The low-volume plant hand assembles all of the dry sump motors for Corvettes. Previously, they also made the powerplants for the Cadillac STS-V and XLR-V. You can learn more about this unique facility and take a photo tour with us after the break.

[VIDEO] Hotlap with Jim Mero in a Corvette ZR1 at GM's Milford Proving Ground

Last week, attendees to the NCRS National Convention had the opportunity to visit GM’s Milford Proving Grounds. One of the highlights of the visit was an opportunity for a hotlap in a Corvette ZR1 with Jim Mero, the GM test driver who piloted the Yellow Corvette ZR1 around the Nurburgring in 7:19.63. [VIDEO] Morning Donuts: Jetstream Blue 2008 Corvette in the Driveway

This video of a driver doing donuts in his driveway is one of the best I’ve seen lately and it sure started my day with a smile. And what’s not to love about a burnout video with a rocking soundtrack, multiple camera angles and a slow-mo replay! Plus if you see that basketball hoop in the back, there is the element of danger that the backend of the Corvette would swing around and wack it. But this driver’s car control skills are excellent and the only “damage” was the burnt rubber left on the driveway.

[PICS] 2011 Brickyard 400 Grand Sport Corvette Festival Car

Since the first race at the Indianapolis 500 Motor Speedway in 1994, the Brickyard 400 has grown into one of NASCAR’s biggest events. For the five years, Corvette has led the pack as the pace car including last year’s race that was paced by the Bowling Green Metallic Grand Sport. This year’s Pace Car will be announced tomorrow at a special event, but we did find Corvettes and Camaros serving at “Festival Cars” which are the vehicles driven by track officials and other luminaries.

[VIDEO] LMR Tests Their Texas Mile Twin Turbo Corvette in GM's Wind Tunnel

Back in May, Late Model Racecraft’s twin-turbo Corvette set the standing mile record at the Texas Mile with a run of 231 mph. The team obviously feels they can get more out of their Corvette so they took the car up to Detroit where it was put in GM’s famous wind tunnel for aero testing.
