The one-of-a-kind 1957 Corvette SS must be wondering what it has to do to have some fun on the racetrack.

Fifty-seven years ago, the SS made its debut at Sebring but only managed to cover 23 laps before having to head to the garage because of technical problems. Unfortunately, it was to be the only competition for the SS because General Motors and other automakers placed a self-imposed ban on racing competition after several deaths on the track.

Well, at least the headlights still work!

That’s probably little consolation for the driver of this C5 Corvette, who lost control and rammed his car into a traffic light post at the intersection of Paramount and Olsen boulevards in Amarillo, Texas.

Mickey Thompson's 1963 Corvette Z06 Up for Grabs at Mecum's Seattle Auction

Clearly Mecum’s Seattle auction is shaping up to be a blockbuster for Corvette enthusiasts. In addition to the L88 “double feature” we reported earlier this week now Dana Mecum and his team have added another rare Corvette to their first ever Seattle event, Mickey Thompson’s personal 1963 Z06.

On June 13th and 14th, Corvette collectors can bid on a 1967 L88, a 1969 L88, and Thompson’s 1963 Z06. These are some of the rarest, most coveted and most valuable Corvettes ever produced. There’s not much more Mecum could throw into the equation to make it any more exciting for Corvette collectors unless they could find a ZL1 or an original Grand Sport to add to their other three bluechip Corvettes.

The BLOCK Features Roberto Berdiels 1967 Corvette Vintage Racer

Here’s a 1967 Corvette that could have been perfectly content to be a show car.

It was a showroom gem when longtime Corvette enthusiast Roberto Berdiel of San Juan, Puerto Rico bought it.

But that wasn’t his ultimate vision for the car. He just wanted it to serve as the foundation for a wild C2 racer, and, wow, what a job Roberto and his team did, so good in fact that the Stingray was recently chosen as The BLOCK Feature Car.
