Mecum Auctions rolls into Houston, Texas this weekend for their inaugural event there. The shiny new 2-day sale takes place Friday, April 13th and Saturday the 14th at the Reliant Center. The Velocity team will be sporting their very best blue shirts and khaki pants throughout their 12 hours of live coverage. Right now, there are over 60 Corvettes listed on the docket.
As we get closer to the 2013 Corvette’s official launch at the National Corvette Museum’s Bash later this month, additional details about the final C6 Corvette are starting to trickle out. There is always excitement when GM introduces a new color choice for Corvettes and so when we came across an official Chevrolet Dealer document that shows an illustration of the new 2013 Corvette in Night Race Blue, we’ll, let’s just say we’re very pleased with the addition of the new shade.
Last night on SPEED, we watched two shops from California duke it out as they attempted to modify and customize a 1986 Corvette in 48 hours. In the end, the blue team hailing from Shinbone Alley in Fresno came out on top with their 1986 Corvette which was finished in two-tone black and copper. The red team, from Sledsville in So-Cal, also went black and gold with their build, but their ambitious plan for customizing their Corvette was just too much to accomplish in 48 hours. Our friends at SPEED sent us some additional photography of the cars taken during filming of the show and we’ll share them with you after the jump.
You may have heard about and seen the Top Gear chopper that was captured as it lost control and crashed into the dirt on a timely video shot by a man in Coolidge, Ariz.
What you may not have seen is additional footage that has just surfaced on YouTube that actually shows the speeding Corvette being filmed by the helicopter for a stunt on the popular TV show, then gives an in-copter view of what the crash looked like to the two pilots and shows onlookers rushing to check on the pair.
I wouldn’t technically call this a fail as fail usually denotes that the person behind the wheel of the car is somehow at fault for doing something stupid. So having said that, we came across an instagram tweet late this afternoon from @chrisgoulet that said the following:
“Has anyone seen my #vette? #corvette #fail”
We retweeted the photo and asked for details. @ChrisGoulet replied:
“Construction + double-lane left-hand turn = side-swiped and run off the road.”
If you’re looking for a unique Corvette, then we have found it for you in Spain.
A collector over there drew up a 1/18 scale model and then had a custom Corvette C3 limo made from the sketch.
You already know the premise behind SPEED’s Car Warriors: Give two teams identical cars and 48 hours to make it their own. At the end of the show, a winner is chosen by So-Cal Speed Shop’s Jimmy Shine. The series airs on SPEED Wednesdays at 9pm ET and if don’t already have Car Warriors on your DVR’s record list, make sure you add it now as this week’s featured build car is the 1986 Corvette.
Chevy Team Races Against the Clock and GT Rivals on Waterfront Circuit
LONG BEACH, Calif., April 6, 2012 – Now for something completely different in the second round of the 2012 American Le Mans Series. Instead of the wide-open expanse of Sebring, Corvette Racing will compete in the concrete-lined canyons of downtown Long Beach. Instead of 12 grueling hours in central Florida, the ALMS at Long Beach will condense the competition into 120 minutes of close-quarter combat. What hasn’t changed, however, is the imperative to perform. With 20 championship points to be won on the waterfront street circuit on Saturday, April 14, the Chevrolet team will be fighting for a victory.
Barrett-Jackson wrapped up their three day foray to the East Coast as their 10th annual Palm Beach Collector Car Auction concluded on Saturday. The 2012 car list was a bit lighter on Corvettes compared with the auction house’s previous Palm Beach sales, but we still witnessed 39 Corvettes ranging from a 1954 roadster to a 2008 Indy Pace Car replica being sold at no reserve.
