Gavin and Milner Score Third Win of Season, Take GT Championship Lead

LEXINGTON, Ohio, Aug. 4, 2012 – In Olympic terms, Corvette Racing drivers Oliver Gavin and Tommy Milner won the gold today in the GT class at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Challenge, the sixth round of the American Le Mans Series. Instead of medals, Gavin and Milner were awarded silver trophies and the maximum championship points as they notched their third win of the season in the No. 4 Compuware Corvette C6.R.

Corvette Racing’s Jan Magnussen and teammate Antonio Garcia will have some new competition Saturday as they try to maintain their GT championship points lead in the 2012 American Le Mans Series with a race at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course.

They’ll be entering the sixth round of the season against the SRT Viper team for the first time, and Magnussen slowed down enough this week to talk with PaddockTalk.com about that challenge and the season so far.

Garcia and Milner Qualify within Half-Second of Pole in Hotly Contested GT Class

LEXINGTON, Ohio, Aug. 3, 2012 – The heat was on at Mid-Ohio today during GT qualifying for Saturday’s Mid-Ohio Sports Car Challenge, the sixth round of the American Le Mans Series. As the ambient temperature topped 94 degrees and the track temperature climbed to 110 degrees, Antonio Garcia qualified the No. 3 Compuware Corvette C6.R fifth in the hotly contested class at 1:19.536 (102.213 mph). Tommy Milner was right behind his teammate, qualifying the No. 4 Compuware Corvette C6.R sixth at 1:19.727 (101.958 mph).

Five Days and 1,500 Miles in the 2013 Corvette ZR1 Pace Car

If there’s ever been a dream job for a Corvette fanatic, Dr. Jamie Meyer just punched the clock.

He had the honor of driving the actual Corvette ZR1 pace car that was used in this year’s Indy 500 on a 1500-mile segment of the Hot Rod Magazine Power Tour, a seven-day, seven-city traveling car show that went from GM’s Milford Proving Grounds to Arlington, Texas.

July 2012 Corvette Sales

General Motors released the July 2012 sales report this week and the data shows 987 Corvettes were delivered during the month. This is a huge decline from June 2012 where 1,475 Corvettes found new homes, however it was somewhat expected with the extended July shutdown at the assembly plant.

Comparing July 2012 sales to July 2011′s number of 1,291 Corvettes sold, deliveries are off a whopping -23.5%. For the calendar year to date, a total of 8,009 Corvettes have been sold which is pacing -2.2% off of 2011′s CYTD 8,187 sales figure.

[UPDATE] Indiana Mayor Turns His Reserved Spot into a Handicapped Space

We told you a few days ago about the mayor of Logansport, Indiana and his parking fiasco outside the City Building.

You may remember that Mayor Ted Franklin went ahead and paid a $20 ticket for parking his bright yellow C5 Corvette convertible illegally outside the building for a few hours but got even with a political foe by soon creating a huge reserved parking spot for himself, complete with a “Mayor Parking Only” sign, claiming it would help him do a better and more efficient job for the taxpayers.

No. 1 Briggs Cunningham 1960 Le Mans Corvette Racer Found

If you’ve had the opportunity to watch The Quest, the documentary about the 3-car team of 1960 Corvettes fielded by Briggs Cunningham in the 1960 24 Hours of Le Mans and the search for those three cars years later by collectors, you would know that the No. 1 Corvette had been lost and its current whereabouts were unknown.

Until now.

Lance Miller, co-owner of Carlisle Events and owner of the Briggs Cunningham No.3 1960 Corvette, made the shocking announcement on Facebook yesterday stating that the #1 Le Mans Corvette Racer had finally been discovered and would be displayed in its current “Barn-Find” condition at Corvettes at Carlisle later this month.
