Barrett-Jackson hits Sin City this weekend for their 5th annual Las Vegas sale. Over 50 Corvettes are up for adoption Thursday September 20th through Saturday the 22nd at the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino. As always, SPEED will be providing live coverage of the event. We’ve all heard about kiddie rides at the fair.
Well, how about “kitty rides”?
We’ve found one of those stories that just begs for puns like that. Here’s another obvious one: This guy’s Corvette was really purring like a kitten. Or how about: Was she just “a cat on a hot tin (fiberglass?) hood”? Okay, okay, we’ll stop, but we couldn’t resist.
Kids figured out long ago that you just never know what might be waiting in that big box when you open it on your birthday.
Well, that philosophy recently took an unusual turn down under.
Wharf inspectors in Brisbane, Australia finally opened a shipping container which had been sitting undisturbed on the docks for a decade and lo and behold discovered a stolen 1968 Corvette resting inside. The owner had reported the white convertible with a black top stolen 10 years ago and apparently went on his merry way after receiving an insurance payout.
When I was in Detroit last month for the Woodward Dream Cruise, my personal Corvette story was told to a few GM’ers and it eventually made it way to Paul Manzella who runs the Faces of GM website. So I did a quick interview with Paul from GM’s Design on Woodward car show the Wednesday before Dream Cruise and today that video went live so check it out!

Each week the Autoline TV program and its host, John McElroy, take an in-depth look at various topics in the ever-changing auto industry. In this week’s episode, McElroy is joined by Peter De Lorenzo of Autoextremist.com as the pair sit down with GM’s VP of Global Design, Ed Welburn, to discuss the past, present, and future of GM design. Included in the discussion is a rare behind the scenes tour of the GM Design Studio featuring cameos by the Corvette Sting Ray racer, as well as the Mako Shark and Manta Ray Concepts.
A group of Chevy engineers testing the 2014 C7 Corvette prototypes were spotted in and around the town of Red River, New Mexico late last week. A member on the Corvette Forum named 10KillerVette found this out when his dad called him to say he just saw two C7 Corvettes in full camouflage testing in the mountains around the town. Like any Corvette fan would do, 10KillerVette aka Sean Ziese told his dad Richard to “get his ass back out on the roads with a camera!” And that’s exactly how we got these photos and a brief video to share with you!
