Last week I previewed this stunning 1958 Panama Yellow Corvette. At the time I thought it would be one of the top Corvettes to run through the auction based the fact that it is a ’58 Vette with all that chrome, the number of awards, and the dual quads and power top options. The X factor was documentation which wasn’t listed in the description on the Barrett-Jackson website. Turns out this Corvette was second in Corvette sales for the weekend, selling for $165,000 plus the 10% commission for a total of $181,500. The top Corvette for the weekend was the 1959 Triple Black Fuelie. And if you watch the bidding you will see the female buyer of the 1958 Corvette was sitting next to the buyer of the 1959 Fuelie. Back to this 1958 Corvette. The Panama Yellow was offered on only 455 Corvettes and was a unique, one year color. The 283 ci 245 dual quad engine was installed in just 2,045 Corvettes that year. The Power Folding Top option was only offered on 1,090 Corvettes. These limited options will pump up the value of any 1958 Corvette. And then there is the awards and certifications: Multiple regional and national NCRS Top Flights, Bloomington Gold, Gold Spinner and the Duntov Award. This Corvette was also invited to be part of the Bloomington Gold Special Collection.
