Rare 1960 GM Film Documents Corvette's First Visit to Le Mans

In celebration of the 50th Anniversary of Corvette’s first visit to the 24 Hours of Le Mans, GM has opened up the media archives and is showing this 1960 documentary which captures Corvette’s first class win at the historic sports car race. Narrated by Dr. Dick Thompson, aka “The Flying Dentist”, the 35-minute film follows the three Briggs Cunningham Corvettes and the #4 Camoradi Corvette from arrival in France to the post-race celebration.

Jeff Gordon Drives a Corvette ZR1 around the Monticello Motor Club

The Monticello Motor Club is a new private race resort facility built on 650 acres in Monticello, New York – just 90 minutes outside of New York City. One of the configurations is a 3.5 mile road course consisting of 18 turns, 1.5 miles of straights and 450 feet total elevation changes. Today we find MMC member Jeff Gordon rocking a Corvette ZR1 at speeds up to 150 mph around the new track.

1979 Corvette Burns in Boston

This 1979 Corvette burst into flames in the Boston suburb of Wellesley on Wednesday night. According to police, the driver stopped on Washington Street when he felt a small explosion under the hood. Lt. Jack Pilecki of Wellesley police added “He also saw a small flame by his tire. Luckily he stopped the car and got out safely, and officials were able to contain the blaze.” No one was hurt in the accident.

1960 #3 Le Mans Corvette Prepares for Historic Return to France

Chip Miller of Corvettes at Carlisle had a dream to return the #3 1960 Briggs Cunningham Corvette and its driver John Fitch back to Le Mans for the 50 anniversary of Corvette’s first class win and 8th place finish overall in the world’s most prestigest road race. Sadly, Chip passed away in 2003 and now his son Lance is working to fulfill his father’s dream. This is a neat video that will introduce you to the #3 Corvette and the people who have played a role in restoring it to it’s former racing configuration.

At last weekend’s American Le Mans Series at Monterey, Chevy and Corvette Racing took the time to honor the men and their Corvettes who were the trailblazers for today’s Corvette racing program. On hand for the celebration was Dr. Dick Thompson (aka The Flying Dentist) who drove the #2 Corvette at the 1960 24 Hours of Le Mans and Dick Guldstrand who raced with Bob Bondurant in 1967. These two legends told some incredible stories of their exploits and you can watch the videos after the jump.

[VIDEO] Pull the Fuse on your C6 Corvette's Dual Mode Exhaust

Since the introduction of the dual mode performance exhaust on Z06 Corvettes back in 2006, owners have been doing this very simple mod to keep the NPP’s butterfly valves open so they can enjoy that deep exhaust rumble all the time. Historic Le Mans Corvette Racers at Laguna Seca

As part of the 50th Anniversary celebration of the Corvette’s debut at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, Chevy rounded up three historic Le Mans racers for a special display at the ALMS race this weekend at Monterey’s Laguna Seca raceway.
