Chief Engineer Tadge Juechter said at the Corvette Museum’s C5/C6 Bash in April that they would be looking to make a trip to the famous 12.9 mile Nordschleife for final validation of the supercharged C6 ZR1. We just didn’t realize it would be so soon! Judging from the new official video from Chevrolet showing test driver Jim Mero piloting the 638-hp Corvette to a time of 7:19.63, an 6 second improvement over the famous high speed run in July 2008, I would have to say that final validation was most definitely a success.

Here is some onboard footage from the #73 Corvette C6.R at today’s free practice session. The Corvettes ran well and Magnussen even moved the C6.R into P1 for a few minutes. A somewhat scary moment occurred when the #74 Corvette was reported to be on fire. It turned out to be a minor power steering issue and the team was able to get right back out on track.
During the two hour qualifying session, the GTE PRO standings had the #56 BMW on the provisional pole at 3:58.426. Ferrari and BMW were 2nd and 3rd while the #74 Corvette finished 4th at 3:59.519 and the #73 Corvette was 5th at 3:59.633.
Patrick Gramm of Gramm Productions/Digital Corvettes has teamed up with Onset3D Studios to begin work on a new project called the “Corvette 3D Experience”. It’s going to be the first 3D documentary about Corvettes and it will bring the coolest Corvettes from six generations right into the living room of viewers through the power of high-definition 3D. But before filming can start, Patrick needs YOUR help.
Matt Farah and The Smoking Tire put out a great new video featuring the new Cadillac CTS-V Wagon. Ferah took the sports wagon to the El Mirage Dry Lake Bed where he put the 556-hp Caddy through its paces which included a 3-mile top speed run while shouting out the speed to an OnStar advisor. Matt was also joined by his friend Chris who has a 480-hp tuned C6 Corvette. The two GM performance cars lined up for a half-mile sprint on the dry lake bed. See who wins after the jump!
Here is a video that will make you feel good about owning a Corvette. This modified supercharged Z06 with 700 horsepower lines up against Sweden’s Koenigsegg CCXR with just over 1,000 horsepower for a 1-mile drag race. Both cars seemingy get off to a slow start thanks to a bunch a wheel spin, but the Z06 finds traction first, jumps out in the lead and never looks back.
Tommy Milner joined Doug Fehan and Dan Binks for a luncheon with the Corvette Racing team at the National Corvette Museum’s C5/C6 Bash. In this video, driver Tommy Milner talks about his experiences so far in his inaugural year in the C6.R as well as giving the enthusiasts in the crowd some highlights of his brief but highly successful racing career.
KMBC in Kansas City had this report about a Corvette that crashed into a house. The Corvette’s driver apparently was running from a routine police stop. After turning onto a small back road off Highway 150, the driver lost control and hit a tree which launched the Corvette airborne. Police found the wrecked Corvette on the front porch of a home.

Ontario-based professional photographer Rob Smith had the opportunity to shoot this black Corvette ZR1 in a variety of settings. We happened upon them on the Forum and just loved the feel and emotion radiating from the 638 hp supercharged supercar parked in this urban setting. Judging from the multitude of comments, I am not alone.
According to a post on the Corvette Forum, Late Model Racecraft now holds the record for the fastest corvette in the standing mile which they set Saturday at the Texas Mile. Their twin turbo C6 Corvette hit 231 mph despite a 31 mph head wind. Check out what 231 mph in a Corvette looks like after the jump.
Les Stanford Chevrolet of Dearborn, MI posted these photos Wednesday on the Corvette Forum which show a 2012 Corvette Grand Sport painted in Carlisle Blue. Having seen just the bumper cover at the Bash, I wondered how it would look on a full car. Check out the larger photos after the jump and then let us know what you think of the new blue 2012 Corvette.
