The new Corvette LT1 engine, the first of the Gen 5 family of Small Block engines, combines several advanced technologies, including direct injection, Active Fuel Management and continuously variable valve timing to support an advanced combustion system. As part of its rollout today, GM put together this cool animation of the C7 Corvette’s new LT1 Gen 5 small block V8 being virtually assembled.

On Saturday morning, October 20th, Corvette’s Chief Engineer Tadge Juechter and Corvette’s Exterior Designer Kirk Bennion spoke at the Corvette Corral at Petit Le Mans. Tadge emphasized that the C7 is a totally new Corvette while Kirk Bennion spoke about the design and characteristics of the C7 Corvette logo that was unveiled earlier in the week.
A couple of weeks ago, a gaggle of 2014 C7 Corvette prototypes were caught being tested by a GM engineering team in and around the town of Red River, New Mexico. Many new revelations came from spy photos of those tests including the first pics of the newly redesigned seats and steering wheel.
This new video from Edmund’s Inside Line rehashes some of those items, but at the end we actually get a clear sound of the throaty exhaust sound coming from the Gen V small block which will power the new Corvette.
Really high performance sports cars like the Corvette ZR1 and Z06 always seem to come only with six-speed transmissions.
But not anymore.
On a forum post on Camaro5.com earlier this week, Howard Tanner, owner of Redline Motorsports, which bills itself as South Florida’s premier EFI performance shop, announced that his crew has been working hard to develop the world’s first ZR1 Corvette with an automatic transmission.

Corvette Product Manager Harlan Charles is at the Corvette Time Line display at Detroit’s Woodward Dream Cruise and he takes us through some of the biggest (and lightest) changes that occurred during production of the C6 Corvette generation that started in 2005 and ends in 2013.
This classic Corvette was a total loss and its driver was badly burned after a two-vehicle accident in Tempe, AZ this Monday.
Police said the Corvette was rear ended by a pickup truck and the impact spun the sports car out into the intersection where it caught fire. The driver of the Corvette was on fire after exiting his car and he suffered second degree burns.
We received word last week about an exciting new show on SPEED set to air in early 2013. “Vette, a Corvette Series” will debut next January. The show, hosted by Drew Waters (Friday Night Lights) and Jeff Hammond (NASCAR) will focus on everything Corvette-related, both old and new. Car and Driver Technical Editor Michael Austin recently put Chevrolet’s best Corvettes – the ZR1 and the Z06 – against one another, giving us what he loves about the Corvette but at the same time telling us what it needs to do to remain relevant as it enters its seventh generation.
He recently pushed the two flagship Corvettes to their limits at Chuckwalla Valley Raceway in Desert Center, California and came away impressed but at the same disappointed.
