Corvette Racing Series Episode 5: A Salute to the Le Mans 50th Anniversary

In the 5th episode of Track to Street: Corvette Racing Series, we’re given a history lesson on the story of Corvette Racing at Le Mans, and how it all began 50 years ago at the 24 hour race. Take a look at the behind-the-scenes footage, which includes a chronicle of the Corvette’s evolution as well as some interviews with key team-members of the past and present and what the 24 hours of Le Mans means to them. Among those interviewed were famed drivers Dick Guldstrand and Dick Thompson, as well as current team Ambassador, Ron Fellows.

Team Pictures with the Corvette C6.Rs and the 1960 Le Mans Corvette

Following Monday’s Scrutineering, the Corvette Racing team posed for the traditional team photos at Place des Jacobins, adjacent to La Cathedrale Saint-Julien in downtown Le Mans. The Corvettes were then loaded up and returned to Circuit de la Sarthe where the team was joined on the track in front of the world famous grand stands with the 1960 #3 Briggs Cunningham Corvette.

Corvette C6.Rs Undergo Scrutineering

On Monday before noon local time, Corvette Racing’s C6.Rs were picked up in the paddock and taken to downtown Le Mans where they officially underwent scrutineering. Thousands of fans gathered in Jacobin square and looked on as the Corvettes were studied, tested and then deemed good to go for the 24 Hours of Le Mans. After pictures in front of the historic Le Mans Cathedral, team members headed back to the track for a photo shoot with the 1960 #3 Briggs Cunningham Corvette that won at Le Mans 50 years ago.

2008 Le Mans Flashback: Night Practice On Board the Corvette C6.R

If all goes as planned, one week from now the two Corvette C6.Rs will be racing through the French countryside in the dead of the night locked in battle with the best sport car manufacturers in the world. Two years ago we pulled this video off a French website during live streaming of a practice session. American Invasion: Corvette C6.Rs Arrive at Le Mans

Here are photos of the two Corvette C6.Rs being delivered to the Paddock at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. After some baseless speculation about a possible livery change to match the 1960 Briggs Cunningham Corvette’s white/blue stripes for the 50th Anniversary of Corvette’s first race at Le Man, we see both cars in dressed in their standard 2010 Yellow/Black livery. Like Monterey, both Corvettes feature the new 50th Anniversary logo front and center on the hood.

The #3 Briggs Cunningham Corvette Arrives in France for 50th Anniversary Celebration at Le Mans

We just got word through Lance Miller that his 1960 #3 Briggs Cunningham Corvette has made it safely to the port of Le Havre in France. The Corvette was placed in a large cargo container last month and made its trans-Atlantic voyage by ship. By now the Corvette should be resting comfortably at the famous 24 Hours of Le Mans Museum.

Autoweek Video Highlights Racing DNA in the 2011 Corvette Z06 Carbon Edition

As one of the partners in the Race to Win Corvette Sweepstakes, AutoWeek’s Editorial Director Dutch Mandel was able to sit down with Corvette Chief Engineer Tadge Juechter and Corvette Racing’s Engineering Director Doug Louth. The two engineers discussed the individual aspects of the 2011 Corvette Z06 Carbon Edition and how cascade engineering with the racing program has created the best track Corvette yet.

Rare 1960 GM Film Documents Corvette's First Visit to Le Mans

In celebration of the 50th Anniversary of Corvette’s first visit to the 24 Hours of Le Mans, GM has opened up the media archives and is showing this 1960 documentary which captures Corvette’s first class win at the historic sports car race. Narrated by Dr. Dick Thompson, aka “The Flying Dentist”, the 35-minute film follows the three Briggs Cunningham Corvettes and the #4 Camoradi Corvette from arrival in France to the post-race celebration.
