In the summer of 1960 Corvette Racing won the prestigious 24 hours of Le Mans for the very first time. Racing legend Briggs Cunningham fielded 3 white, fuel injected C1′s numbered 1, 2, and 3 in the annual endurance race. Cars #1 and #2 didn’t finish, but number 3 went on to win its class and finish 8th overall. We got a chance to catch up with that famous #3 at last weekend’s Concours d’Elegance of America in Plymouth. Michigan.
You might say two old friends will be celebrating a special anniversary later this month.
The second annual Corvette World Tribute is slated on Sunday, August 19 at Road America, where 60 years of Corvettes will be marked with a variety of special events.

Gavin and Milner Score Third Win of Season, Take GT Championship Lead
LEXINGTON, Ohio, Aug. 4, 2012 – In Olympic terms, Corvette Racing drivers Oliver Gavin and Tommy Milner won the gold today in the GT class at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Challenge, the sixth round of the American Le Mans Series. Instead of medals, Gavin and Milner were awarded silver trophies and the maximum championship points as they notched their third win of the season in the No. 4 Compuware Corvette C6.R.
Corvette Racing’s Jan Magnussen and teammate Antonio Garcia will have some new competition Saturday as they try to maintain their GT championship points lead in the 2012 American Le Mans Series with a race at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course.
They’ll be entering the sixth round of the season against the SRT Viper team for the first time, and Magnussen slowed down enough this week to talk with PaddockTalk.com about that challenge and the season so far.
If there’s ever been a dream job for a Corvette fanatic, Dr. Jamie Meyer just punched the clock.
He had the honor of driving the actual Corvette ZR1 pace car that was used in this year’s Indy 500 on a 1500-mile segment of the Hot Rod Magazine Power Tour, a seven-day, seven-city traveling car show that went from GM’s Milford Proving Grounds to Arlington, Texas.
If there was an Olympic event for world class car shows, Pebble Beach, Amelia Island and the Concours d’Elegance of America (formerly Meadowbrook) would all complete for the gold medal. Any (or all) of these 3 prestigious shows should be on your must-attend list. When we heard that there was going to be Corvette vs Jaguar racing display at this year’s Concours d’Elegance of America, we put it on our must, must, must-attend list.
If you’ve had the opportunity to watch The Quest, the documentary about the 3-car team of 1960 Corvettes fielded by Briggs Cunningham in the 1960 24 Hours of Le Mans and the search for those three cars years later by collectors, you would know that the No. 1 Corvette had been lost and its current whereabouts were unknown.
Lance Miller, co-owner of Carlisle Events and owner of the Briggs Cunningham No.3 1960 Corvette, made the shocking announcement on Facebook yesterday stating that the #1 Le Mans Corvette Racer had finally been discovered and would be displayed in its current “Barn-Find” condition at Corvettes at Carlisle later this month.
A Look Back and a Look Ahead at the Midpoint of 2012 ALMS Season
LEXINGTON, Ohio, July 31, 2012 – With five races completed and five to go, Corvette Racing will be halfway home at its home track. Saturday’s Mid-Ohio Sports Car Challenge at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course signals the start of the second half of the 2012 American Le Mans Series. At the season’s midpoint, Corvette Racing and Chevrolet stand atop the driver, team, and manufacturer championship standings. The fierce competition that has been the hallmark of the GT category is about to become more intense with the return of one of Corvette’s longstanding rivals to ALMS competition.
