Monterey, CA. May 9, 2013 – When teams and drivers return to a track where they have previously enjoyed success, it sparks a heightened sense of anticipation heading into the event. For the drivers and crew members of the No.’s 3 and 4 Compuware Corvette C6.Rs, this weekend’s four-hour American Le Mans Series (ALMS) Monterey at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca means a return to the site of a 1-2 Corvette Racing finish in 2012.
“Fast Phil” Currin used his savvy brain to become one of the steadiest Corvette racers of the 1970s.
He paid just $1,900 for his red 1963 split-window some 47 years ago. Now 67, Currin and his Corvette – nicknamed “Giantkiller” when he made a habit of beating newer, flashier cars – made an appearance at the Hall of Fame’s 40th anniversary at Sebring in March.
One of the most popular seminars at Corvette Museum’s Bash is the one featuring members of the factory-backed Corvette Racing Team. This year the seminar featured Corvette Racing’s Program Manager Doug Fehan, driver of the #4 Corvette C6.R Tommy Milner and the #3 Corvette C6.Rs Crew Chief Dan Binks.
The trio talk about the ins and outs of the current season which started with a win at Sebring and then a 4th and 5th place finish at Long Beach. Doug talks for just a few minutes and then the team then takes questions from the audience.
We saw the spy photos earlier this week of the Corvette Stingray working out at Milford and now Chevy has made it official with the announcement that the 2014 Corvette Stingray will serve as the official pace car at the 97th running of the Indianapols 500. The “Greatest Spectacle in Racing” happens on Sunday, May 26th.
Great news for Indy 500 Corvette pace car fans. Autoweek is claiming that the 2014 Corvette Stingray will be the pace car for the Greatest Spectacle in Racing and they say they have the spy photos to prove it. The photos show a specially-equipped Laguna Blue 2014 Corvette Stingray with safety lights testing at the Milford Proving Grounds.
A 1967 Corvette that has a special place in the history of the 24 Hours of Le Mans has been chosen to be the poster art for this year’s Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion poster.
That car is the 1967 Corvette No. 9 raced by Corvette legends Dick Guldstrand and Bob Bondurant at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, where it hit speeds of 170mph-plus down Mulsanne Straight to take a big lead before mechanical woes forced it off the track. Despite that disappointment, the two drivers had already become folk heroes to the locals by driving the car from the airport near Paris to the track.
The National Corvette Museum’s Bash kicks off later this week and one of the special events happening over the three-day event is the raffle of this Velocity Yellow 2013 Corvette 427 Convertible tribute to Andy Pilgrim, who was inducted into the Corvette Hall of Fame last September.
(LONG BEACH, Calif., April 20, 2013) – Corvette Racing scored two top-five finishes at Long Beach to maintain a share of the lead in the American Le Mans Series (ALMS) Manufacturer Standings through the first two races of the season.
Tommy Milner and Oliver Gavin, drove the No. 4 Compuware Corvette C6.R to a fourth-place finish in the GT class in the two-hour Tequila Patron American Le Mans Series at Long Beach on the 1.968-mile, 11-turn street circuit. Antonio Garcia and Jan Magnussen finished fifth in the No. 3 Compuware Corvette C6.R.
