The #63 Corvette was shown parked on the side of the track at 07:00. Fehan says crank case pressure alarm went off indicating a major problem with the engine. Calls it a terminal issue with the engine. Corvette Racing confirms in tweets: Terminal mechanical issue on 63 Corvette, Garcia stopped on track going into Indianapolis, End of the race for No. 63 at Le Mans.

Fehan on #63 Corvette’s retirement: “Our first engine problem in 11 years at Le Mans. No indication leading up to it.”

Steady Running for Corvettes, Duel in Sixth Hour Ended by Safety Car

Corvette Racing’s Compuware Corvette C6.R race cars ran consistently at the front of the GT2 class throughout the first quarter of the 24 Hours of Le Mans. The sixth hour featured an intense battle for P1 between Emmanuel Collard in the No. 64 Corvette C6.R and Pierre Kaffer in the No. 82 Ferrari 430 GTC. After running within a car length for lap after lap, the duel was ended by a pit stop during a safety car period that temporarily split the two racers. The No. 63 Corvette C6.R was holding third after six hours of racing.

#64 Corvette to Start on the Pole at the 24 Hours of Le Mans

Initial qualifying was the Risi Competizione Ferrari, then Corvette #64, Corvette #63 and Ferrari again.

Reason is unknown at this time but Risi Competizione has been sent to the back of the grid following inspection after qualifying. This leaves the # 64 Corvette on the pole with #63 C6.R second!

Oliver Gavin confirmed it on Facebook it we now have confirmation from from Corvette Racing after the jump.

Corvettes Second and Third in GT2 Qualifying

Corvette Racing made a fast start in its GT2 debut at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. The Corvette C6.Rs were first and third in the opening four-hour free practice session. After a two-hour break, the first of three qualifying sessions for Saturday’s 24 Hours of Le Mans ran from 10 p.m. to midnight on the immense 8.47-mile circuit.

In the 5th episode of Track to Street: Corvette Racing Series, we’re given a history lesson on the story of Corvette Racing at Le Mans, and how it all began 50 years ago at the 24 hour race. Take a look at the behind-the-scenes footage, which includes a chronicle of the Corvette’s evolution as well as some interviews with key team-members of the past and present and what the 24 hours of Le Mans means to them. Among those interviewed were famed drivers Dick Guldstrand and Dick Thompson, as well as current team Ambassador, Ron Fellows.
