Over the last two weeks we’ve seen a couple videos of the 2014 Corvette Stingray working out on the Nurburgring. One of our posts on Facebook wondered aloud if GM vehicle dynamics engineer and Corvette Track Rat Jim Mero was in Germany. Based on these photos from Chevrolet Europe, we believe the answer is yes.
Autoblog has a gallery of spy photos from the guys at KGP Photography that appear to show a camouflaged Corvette Z07 Convertible prototype undergoing testing at an unnamed facility. The Corvette is well covered with both the white/black swirls on the body and the blanket-covers that we remember well from the testing of the Corvette Stingray in 2012. However, there are some visual clues that do lead us to believe this is the high performance version of the C7 Corvette.
Here’s a welcomed sight through the fence at the Corvette Assembly Plant in Bowling Green. Two rows of 2014 Corvette Stingray convertibles in various colors all lined up and looking ready for some sunshine.
The internet’s abuzz tonight after a video has surfaced showing a Laguna Blue 2014 Corvette Stingray Z51 testing on the famous Nurburgring. The Corvette is shown making some fast runs through several turns with a helmeted driver and a co-pilot. Could it be that GM Engineers are doing some testing in Germany?
Yes, we said Z07!
Car and Driver Magazine has obtained what may be the first official spy photos of the next high performance Corvette model. While the Z06 moniker is expected among Vette enthusiasts since that’s what it was called in both C5 and C6 configurations, Car and Driver says historical RPO codes be damned and believe GM will call it the Z07 since this is the seventh generation Corvette.
Chevrolet has already unveiled the most fuel-efficient Corvette in history, the 2014 Corvette Stingray with direct injection and cylinder deactivation.
But the automaker may have some more tricks up its sleeves to squeeze even more miles out of every tank of gas going through the Stingray.
Yesterday we filled you in on what we thought was a typo listing the official horsepower of the 2014 Corvette Stingray as 455 hp in the official press release naming 49ers Coach Jim Harbaugh as the driver of the Corvette Stingray Indy 500 pace car.
Well, some more digging on GM’s media site has turned up two PDF documents which say the Corvette Stingray Coupe – both manual and automatic transmissions – will have 455 horsepower and 460 lb.-ft torque. The two PDFs for the 2014 Corvette Stingray Convertible – both manual and automatics – still list the estimated numbers of 450 hp and 450 lb.-ft torque.
In yesterday’s official announcement from GM that named 49ers Coach Jim Harbaugh as the official driver of the 2014 Corvette Stingray Pace Car for the Indy 500, there was a paragraph that described the known performance specs for the new C7 sports car. According to the release, the 6.2L LT1 V8 makes 455 horsepower, not the 450 estimated hp that we’ve been told since the engine’s unveiling last fall.
