Corvette Auction Preview: Mecum in Monterey

This is a big weekend for car auctions as most of the major auction houses are descending on Monterey, California for a weekend full of classic and collector car sales. Although fairly new to the Monterey scene, Mecum Auctions has a full slate of cars ready to be sold during their Monterey Daytime Auction which kicks off on Thursday and runs through Saturday. On the Mecum sales docket are 42 Corvettes that are ready for new homes and several of these Vettes are worthy of a closer look.

[VIDEO] Motor Trend Tests the 2012 Corvette Z06 Centennial Edition

Motor Trend had the opportunity to test the new 2012 Corvette Z06 Centennial Edition equipped with the Z07 performance package. Although MT tested a similarly outfitted 2011 Z06 recently, the biggest difference between the two model years is that 2012 comes with the updated Z07 Ultimate Performance Package which includes the Brembo carbon ceramic brakes, Magnetic Selective Ride Control and the new ultra grippy R-compound Michelin Pilot Sport Cup tires.

Left Lane News Shows Spy Pics of C7 Corvette Mule

LeftLaneNews.com has five images from spy photographer Brian Williams (Brenda Priddy & Co) that appear to show the next generation Corvette will indeed retain its front engine/rear wheel drive layout. The engineering mule is disguised as a Cyber Gray Grand Sport Coupe, but you can see how the proportions of the body are slightly larger than the mule’s wheelbase which gives the impression of the wheels being “tucked in”.

July 2011 Corvette Sales

GM released July’s sales report yesterday and we continue to like what we see. Sales of Corvettes remained steady at 1,291, just nine less than June’s total of 1,299. The July 2011 figure is also 7.7% better than the 1,199 Corvettes sold in July 2010. For the calendar year to date, Corvette sales are pacing 8.4% higher than 2010 with a total of 8,187 Corvettes sold January-July.

Carlisle Event’s Lance Miller and family visited Kerbeck Corvette in Atlantic City NJ over the weekend to pick up their new Carlisle Blue 2012 Corvette ZR1. In addition to sporting the special color paying homage to the 30th anniversary of Corvettes at Carlisle, the ZR1 also comes equipped with the new PDE Performance Package which adds the Cup wheels, Michelin PS Cup tires, full width racing style spoiler and the MH3 Close Ratio transmission.

As part of the NCRS national convention last week we were able to participate in a tour of GM’s Performance Build Center. The facility is located about an hour northwest of Detroit in Wixom, MI. The low-volume plant hand assembles all of the dry sump motors for Corvettes. Previously, they also made the powerplants for the Cadillac STS-V and XLR-V. [PICS] Corvette Grand Sport Revealed as Brickyard 400 Pace Car

A 2011 Corvette Grand Sport Coupe will serve as the Pace Car for Sunday’s Brickyard 400. This is the 18th consecutive year that Chevy will be pacing the event and it’s at least the sixth straight year that the pace car was a Corvette. The Supersonic Blue Corvette Grand Sport Coupe was unveiled Friday morning in front of a throng of fans visiting the Indianapolis motor speedway for Chevy Day.

[VIDEO] Hotlap with Jim Mero in a Corvette ZR1 at GM's Milford Proving Ground

Last week, attendees to the NCRS National Convention had the opportunity to visit GM’s Milford Proving Grounds. One of the highlights of the visit was an opportunity for a hotlap in a Corvette ZR1 with Jim Mero, the GM test driver who piloted the Yellow Corvette ZR1 around the Nurburgring in 7:19.63. Twelve raffle winners were selected for the hotlap opportunity and lucky for us, one of them uploaded the video of their hotlap to YouTube.
