We got the February 2011 sales figures from General Motors and its been a rare moment when we can say Corvette sales are up over the previous month as well as up in the year to date figure. Last month, 955 Corvettes were delivered to new homes, a 53% increase from the mere 624 Corvettes sold in the same month in 2010. For the calendar year, 1,676 Corvettes have been delivered which is a 13.4% increase over the first two months of 2010.

During last week’s Detroit Autorama, Cobo Hall was wall-to-wall hot rods and many of those hot rods were Corvettes. The classic hod rod Vettes ranged from originals and restomods to full blown customs like the 1962 Corvette named “Elegance” that won a spot in the Ridler Great 8. Not to be outdone, later model Corvettes included the SEMA Z06x track Corvette and a sinister Black Lingenfelter C6 Convertible were also on full display. Even Jake was in the house! The annual Detroit Autorama is considered the pinnacle of custom rod and car shows. Over the weekend, 100′s of cars and trucks converged on Cobo Hall in Detroit. Even as the cars were being rolled into their display areas, the judges were already sorting through the contenders until they come up with the Great 8 – the top eight cars in the show. Those cars are then considered for the prestigious Ridler Award, named after Don Ridler who in the 1960′s moved the Detroit Autorama to the forefront of custom car shows in the US. This year a 1962 Corvette was selected as one of the Autorama’s Great 8.
For the second month in a row, Car and Driver magazine has an update on the C7 Corvette, but this one landed on the cover. Titled “25 Cars Worth Waiting For”, the cover shot features a rendering of the 2013 Chevy Corvette C7 along with the 2012 Camaro ZL1 and the 2012 Porsche 911. But its the other picture in the article that has many a Corvette enthusiast commenting.
Corvette Conti says that 2011 will be the last year for Jetstream Blue Metallic (RPO 85U). GM will phase the color out early and has already issued a final order date for those that still wish to build a 2011 Corvette in Jetstream Blue. The last Dealer Order submission process to submit orders with Jetstream Blue will occur during the cycle that starts Thursday, March 3, 2011, and ends Tuesday, March 8, 2011.
Last October, GM announced that it would be introducing a new convertible top color for Corvettes. Well that day is here as we have pictures of the first 2011 Corvette Grand Sport convertible made with the new Blue soft top. This 2011 SuperSonic Blue Corvette not only features the first blue convertible top, but open the doors and you see the first Corvette to have the blue accent stitching.
We think Corvette enthusiasts are some of the greatest people in the world. Unfortunately, we also have our share of morons who think they can do whatever they want. Case in point? A police officer cruising the Lenox Mall in Atlanta saw a C6 Corvette parked in the fire lane. As he pulls behind it, the car’s driver comes out of the mall. The officer attempts to question him and the man jumps in the car, locks the doors and takes off at a high rate of speed.
