[VIDEO] Hotlap with Jim Mero in a Corvette ZR1 at GM's Milford Proving Ground

Last week, attendees to the NCRS National Convention had the opportunity to visit GM’s Milford Proving Grounds. One of the highlights of the visit was an opportunity for a hotlap in a Corvette ZR1 with Jim Mero, the GM test driver who piloted the Yellow Corvette ZR1 around the Nurburgring in 7:19.63. Twelve raffle winners were selected for the hotlap opportunity and lucky for us, one of them uploaded the video of their hotlap to YouTube.

We stopped by Corvette Hospitality Day last Saturday at Waterford Hills Raceway just north of Detroit. The annual event is sponsored by Cauley Performance Automotive, Southern Motors, and DJ Race Enterprise. The relaxing day gives Corvette aficionados the opportunity to chat with other enthusiasts, drive some parade laps on the track, and to just sit back and enjoy some great local club racing featuring, of course, Corvettes in addition to a few other classes.

As we told you at the beginning of the month, GM’s wrapped up production of the 2011 Corvette in June and the final count for all Corvettes produced in the 2011 model year was 13,596. That was an 11.5% increase over the 12,194 Corvettes sold during the 2010 model year.

Corvettes Qualify Fourth and Fifth in Lime Rock ALMS

As the Bowling Green Assembly Plant ramps up production of the 2012 Corvette, two of its most popular colors are noticibly absent from the order system. Cyber Gray and Crystal Red Metallic have been in the top four color choices for Corvette buyers in both 2010 and midway through 2011. But the Japenese earthquake damaged the plant that provided a key paint pigment and both colors have been sidelined ever since.

Bloomington Gold 2011: Certification Day

Article contributed by Steve Burns

The highlight of the annual Bloomington Gold Corvette show each year is the judging activity. Participants from all over the country converge on the Pheasant Run Resort in St. Charles, IL each June for the once-a-year opportunity to achieve Survivor, Gold, and/or Benchmark awards. At this event, cars don’t compete against one another. Rather they compete against a standard which is the condition in which the car was delivered from the factory. “No better, no worse, no different.” Click past the jump to learn more about the judging awards and to check out some pics from this years certification judging.

Mecum's Bloomington Gold Auction Rakes in $5.8 million in Corvette Sales

Article and photos contributed by Steve Burns

The atmosphere at this year’s Bloomington auction was interesting. The tent was generally full of bidders and spectators all weekend. Surprisingly, though, bids were hard to come by at times. This can be seen in the numerous cars that sold for less than $10,000. On the flip side of this were the high-end cars. The 1971 ZR2 opened and bidding promptly stalled at $400k. A few moments later the bid was raised to $410k, the reserve was lifted, and the ZR2 was off to its new home.
