Today was the 11th annual National Drive your Corvette to Work Day. It’s the one day where we try to get as many Corvettes on the street as possible. Carlisle Event’s Lance Miller came across the 2012 Corvette Grand Sport Convertible painted in Carlisle Blue at GM’s Bloomington Gold display. Yes, we’re stalking the new color as it’s interesting to see how Carlisle Blue looks in different types of light. In these conditions, dare I say the new color looks quite alright!
When GM returned to the Nurburgring to validate the 2012 Corvettes, the ZR1 wasn’t the only car driven by test driver Jim Mero. Mero also drove a black 2012 Corvette Z06, outfitted with the Z07 chassis package, and posted a lap time of 7:22.68. The new lap time for the Z06 is just 3 seconds off the record-setting 7:19.63 time Mero recently recorded in the ZR1 while besting the previous Z06 record at the Nurburgring by nearly 20 seconds.
We got a message from our friends at Corvette Central that Chris Petris and the Cutaway C4 Corvette will be attending Bloomington Gold this week. Today, you’ll find Chris and the Cutaway Corvette doing seminar duty as part of Bloomington’s Gold Cubic Knowledge series. Petris will be answering your questions in the seminar entitled “C4-C5-C6 Maintenance Tips”.

The 39th rendition of the Bloomington Gold Corvette show takes place this week Thursday through Sunday (June 23rd – 26th) at the Pheasant Run Resort just west of Chicago. We’ve been doing the happy dance here all week as we get ready to head out to the show on Thursday morning. You already know about the return of the GoldTour, the Great Hall people, and Great Hall cars, as well as all the great topics that will be covered during the Cubic Knowledge seminars. Now it’s time to talk about the 400ish Corvettes that will be for sale at Mecum’s Bloomington Gold auction. It was a busy Father’s Day weekend here at CorvetteBlogger.com. We kicked off back to back car shows first by participating in the Canterbury Vette Fest held in Lake Orion, MI. This was the 7th annual event at this location hosted by the GMC Corvette Set club. Mother Nature and roughly 100 Corvettes made for a fantastic day on the grounds of Olde World Canterbury Village. Corvettes from all generations were sprinkled about the scenic streets, sidewalks, and green grass of the village. The event was free to spectators and raised over $3,000 dollars for the Leader Dogs for Blind. Check out some pics from the event after the jump.
Here are some photos of cool Corvettes that were in attendance at the Cars and Coffee gathering in St. Petersburg, Florida at the home of the DuPont Registry. For kicks, I also threw in a few non-Corvette photos as well.
My love of Corvettes is directly attributable to my dad and so I wanted to give a shout out to all that dads out there that are passing on their passion for Corvettes to their children. Not only are you giving them an appreciation for the greatest sports car ever made, the moments you spend with your children in Corvette-centered activities will leave an indelible mark on them for the rest of their lives.

When GM’s North American President Mark Reuss visitied Bowling Green in May to announce the $131 million in upgrades to the Corvette Assembly Plant, he said in his speech that the C7 Corvette with be “completely different”. That statement has set off a number of speculative reports about the C7, from Autocar still talking about a mid-engine design while the Detroit Bureau breathlessly opined about GM developing a 3.0-litre turbocharged V8. Motor Trend has offered their take on the C7 in the August 2011 issue as well as debunking some of the irrational speculation surrounding the next generation Corvette.
