Friday saw the release of GM’s monthly sales reports and for the straight sixth straight month the number of Corvettes sold has been north of 1,000 units. In September 2010, 1,109 Corvettes were sold. This was 30% lower than last year’s 1,585 Corvettes, but discount that due to extenuating circumstances surrounding the September 2009 sales total. Year to date, Corvette sales total 9,798, a 9% decrease from 2009′s 10,795 units.

Earlier this year in May, GM filed a trademark with the US Patent and Trademark Office for the name “Stingray” for use on “motor land vehicles, namely, automobiles”. This is leading to speculation that GM may be registering the name in advanced of launching the C7 Corvette which is expected sometime between 2012-2014.
Corvette sales are holding steady according to the latest sales report from General Motors. Deliveries of Corvettes in August hit 1,135 units which was 64 cars less than July 2010′s 1,199 sales. Year to date, sales are up 52.1% over August 2009′s dismal 746 Corvettes sold. In fact, August 2010 marks the third straight month of increases over 2009′s deliveries. However, last year at this time, the cash for clunkers program was in full swing which heavily impacted the sales of Corvettes and other cars not covered by the program. For the calendar year, 8,689 Corvettes have been sold which is a decline of 5.7% from 2009′s 9,210 Corvettes sold.
GM released the sales figures for July this morning and for the first time since 2006, we have two consecutive months of growth in Corvette sales. While June 2010′s sales increase was a paltry 0.6%, July 2010 showed better results with a 19.5% sales increase over July 2009′s sales. Last month 1,199 Corvettes were delivered, 233 more than July 2009′s Corvette sales. For the calendar year to date, sales are 7,554 Corvettes delivered which is now just -10.8% off the 8,464 Corvettes delivered during the same time period last year.

Yesterday it was announced that Dave Tatman would be taking the helm of the Bowling Green Assembly Plant on August 1st following the reassignment of Bob Parcell, who will be taking over the Lordstown plant in anticipation of the launch of the 2011 Chevy Cruze. Tatman becomes the fourth manager of the Corvette Assembly Plant in just over three years and calls BGAP “the crown jewel of GM’s assembly plants”. At 8 am this morning it was announced that Bob Parcell (pictured on the right), manager of GM’s Bowling Green Assembly Plant, has been reassigned as the plant manager at Lordstown Assembly in Lordstown, Ohio, effective August 1. Bob will lead the launch the brand new Chevrolet Cruze. Dave Tatman, current plant manager at Warren Transmission, will be Bowling Green’s new plant manager.
One of the concerns we’ve had over the past few months is the growing inventory surplus of Corvette ZR1s. Since January this year, the amount of available Corvette ZR1s has grown from 175 units to over 500 at the beginning of July. GM has obviously seen the trend as well and has decided to offer the very first rebates for the 638-horsepower supercharged Corvette.
