January 2010 Corvette Sales

GM released their first sales figures for 2011 and it shows 721 Corvettes were delivered to new owners in January. This is 15.6% off the 854 Corvettes sold last year in January 2010. In fact, the 721 Corvettes delivered in January is 2nd worst month for Corvettes sales since we began tracking the monthly sales figures in January 2006.

2012 Chevy Sonic Selling Point: Suspension Tuned by Corvette Engineers

General Motors rolled out the new 2012 Chevrolet Sonic models earlier this week at the Detroit Auto Show. The sedan and hatchback models are powered by either a 1.8 liter four-cylinder or the Ecotec 1.4L turbo rated at 138 horsepower. But it was the suspensions we found interesting. Chevy says Corvette engineers provided their expertise in the ride and handling of the sub-compact.

A very cool new incentive to help boost Corvette sales was being by touted by several dealers over the weekend. With a purchase of any new 2010 or 2011 Corvette (coupe, convertible, Grand Sport or Z06), you will receive the complimentary two-day ZR1 Driving School at either Bondurant’s School of High Performance Driving or the Ron Fellows Performance Driving School at Spring Mountain. Buyers of the ZR1 already get the two-day driving class so if you buy a new ZR1 during this incentive period, you’ll receive a complimentary third day. December 2010 Corvette Sales

December brought a ton of snow across the country as well as 974 Corvettes for new owners. And with these final sales numbers for 2010 which arrived from General Motors this week, we can officially report total Corvette sales down -9.4% for the 2010 calendar year. The total number of Corvettes delivered in 2010 was 12,624 vs sales of 13,934 Corvettes in CY 2009.

Record-Setting Racer Reunited with Corvette Racing Teammate Andy Pilgrim in New Cadillac SCCA World Challenge GT Program

DETROIT, Dec. 14, 2010 – Johnny O’Connell will move from Corvette Racing to the new Team Cadillac motorsports program in the Sports Car Club of America (SCCA) World Challenge GT in 2011. After 10 successful seasons in Corvettes, O’Connell will join former Corvette Racing teammate Andy Pilgrim in a pair of Cadillac CTS-V Coupes as Cadillac returns to racing in the SCCA production-based series.

Former GM Design Chief Chuck Jordan Dies at 83

Charles “Chuck” Jordan, the designer that many said helped to usher in the modern era of car styling at General Motors, died on Thursday, December 9th. He was 83 years old. Jordan was the fourth man to hold the role of GM Vice President of Design and was in that position from October 1986 until his retirement in 1992. During his tenure at GM, Chuck was responsible for the design of the 1958 Corvette as well as several Corvette Concept cars.

November 2010 Corvette Sales

New Corvette Sales took a major step backwards according to the November 2010 Sales Report issued by General Motors. A total of 836 Corvettes were sold during the month of November, ending the streak of seven consecutive months of sales over 1,000 units. It’s the second worst month for sales in 2010 behind February’s 624 deliveries. Calendar year-to-date sales total 11,645 which is -9.7% off the 12,901 deliveries year to date in 2009.

2011 Corvette Z06 Carbon Edition to MSRP for $90,960

Finally, we have some exciting news regarding the 2011 Corvette Z06 Carbon Edition! Every couple of months since 2011 Corvette production started, I’ve been firing off emails to assorted Corvette team members asking about the start of production for the Carbon Edition and how much will it cost. Today we learned that production is expected to start sometime in early 1st Quarter 2011. And the price? Corvette’s Product Marketing Manager Harlan Charles tells us the 2011 Corvette Z06 will MSRP at $90,960 and if you select all the option boxes, a loaded 2011 Z06 Carbon Edition will sell for $99,925.
