Terry Michaelis’, number 27 1953 NASCAR Corvette has won again, though this time not on the race track but on the show field at the 36th Annual Concours d’Elegnace of America at the Inn at St. Johns in Plymouth, Michigan. After winning two awards at Cincinnati’s Ault Park Concours, a 1st in Class in the Racing Division and the Bill Rudd “Best Vette” Trophy, the Michigan concours added another ribbon in the “Racing Through the Ages” category. Michaelis, president of ProTeam Corvette, has been campaigning the historic blue-ribbon 1953 Corvette race car at concours and shows throughout the country since ProTeam completed the restoration late last year.
Last weekend we made a run down to CORSA Performance’s corporate headquarters in Berea, Ohio to take in their 12th annual Corvettes at CORSA show. Rain threatened, but never materialized which made for a dry, yet hot and muggy Midwestern summer day for roughly 250 Corvette owners. Read on to see more from this year’s show.
We are less than three weeks away from one of the most exciting weeks of Corvette fun in the country and if you haven’t made plans yet to be in Michigan the week of August 10th through the 16th then you may not be aware of all the Corvette activities that go on there in conjunction with the world famous Woodward Dream Cruise and the outstanding Back to the Bricks® car show.
What happens in Michigan the second and third weeks of August is virtually a fantasy of automotive nirvana. Though any car enthusiast worth their engine oil has heard about Detroit’s Woodward Dream Cruise and Flint’s Back to the Bricks show, surprisingly some Corvette enthusiasts do not realize the acclaimed Corvette specific events that are a part of both of these outstanding activities.
Each year the Corvette Reunion, held in conjunction with the Back to the Bricks car show in downtown Flint, Michigan, continues to attract more and more Corvettes from all across the country and this year plans have been made to accommodate 800 Corvettes, up about 150 over last year’s numbers.
In 2013 Corvettes showed up from as far away as Hawaii and included every generation plus hundreds of restomods and custom Corvettes. Officially this is the fifth anniversary of the event and will take place on Friday night, August 15th and Saturday, August 16th.
Katech Performance will host Track Attack 2014, a two-day high performance driving event (HPDE), at the Autobahn Country Club in Joliet, IL on July 21 & 22, a perfect opportunity to give your Corvette some exercise and polish up your driving skills. The Track Attack will be held on the Autobahn’s 2.1-mile, 15-turn South Circuit.
The final slate of candidates for Bloomington Gold’s Great Hall was inducted at last month’s show in Champaign, ILL. Over the last five years, Bloomington Gold has honored 50 people and 50 Corvettes who have positively impacted our hobby. This year’s inductees mark the final year of the Great Hall.
The Great Hall’s intent is to salute the pioneers of our hobby – the people, organizations, and the cars that helped create the phenomenon we know and love today. It’s their passion and drive that helped build the hobby for all of us.
One of our favorite things to do at the major Corvette shows is to walk both the show grounds and parking lots to look at the fun, witty and personality-descriptive vanity license plates that are adorned on America’s favorite sports cars.
We maintain the theory that there are two types of vanity plates. The first type describes the car while the second type is more focused on the owner. Lucky for us, Bloomington Gold offers a target rich environment where both types are on display.
Here’s your chance to support a great cause and maybe win a classic Corvette. This Sunday, a winner will be drawn in the 26th Annual Saint Bernard’s Classic Corvette Giveaway with the grand prize being a Red 1957 fuel injected Corvette. But you can’t win unless your name is on the ticket!
Mid America Motorworks is always looking for new and exciting activities for its annual Corvette Funfest.
This year’s event, set for Sept. 18-21 in Effingham, Ill., will feature a new contest between the branches of the military to see which one – the Army, Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard, Marines, National Guard, or Reserves – ends up with the most active and retired Corvette enthusiasts to register for Corvette Funfest 2014.
