Corvettes on Woodward Event Supports Local Food Bank

If you follow us on Facebook, you probably saw us mention the Corvettes on Woodward event last week. The annual Corvette event takes place each year on the Wednesday just before the Woodward Dream Cruise. Corvette owners from all over the country converged on historic Woodward Avenue in metro Detroit to support the Open Hands Food Pantry in Royal Oak, MI. This year saw yet another record number of Corvettes attend. You can find out just how many Corvettes were there, how much was raised, as well as check out our pics from the event after the break.

Corvette Auction Preview: Mecum in Monterey

This is a big weekend for car auctions as most of the major auction houses are descending on Monterey, California for a weekend full of classic and collector car sales. Although fairly new to the Monterey scene, Mecum Auctions has a full slate of cars ready to be sold during their Monterey Daytime Auction which kicks off on Thursday and runs through Saturday. On the Mecum sales docket are 42 Corvettes that are ready for new homes and several of these Vettes are worthy of a closer look.

Carlisle Event’s Lance Miller and family visited Kerbeck Corvette in Atlantic City NJ over the weekend to pick up their new Carlisle Blue 2012 Corvette ZR1. In addition to sporting the special color paying homage to the 30th anniversary of Corvettes at Carlisle, the ZR1 also comes equipped with the new PDE Performance Package which adds the Cup wheels, Michelin PS Cup tires, full width racing style spoiler and the MH3 Close Ratio transmission.

Back on Wednesday we showed you the video of LMR’s 1,800rwhp Texas Mile C6 undergoing testing in the GM wind tunnel. As part of the NCRS national convention last week we were able to participate in a tour of GM’s Performance Build Center. The facility is located about an hour northwest of Detroit in Wixom, MI. The low-volume plant hand assembles all of the dry sump motors for Corvettes. Previously, they also made the powerplants for the Cadillac STS-V and XLR-V. [VIDEO] Hotlap with Jim Mero in a Corvette ZR1 at GM's Milford Proving Ground

Last week, attendees to the NCRS National Convention had the opportunity to visit GM’s Milford Proving Grounds. One of the highlights of the visit was an opportunity for a hotlap in a Corvette ZR1 with Jim Mero, the GM test driver who piloted the Yellow Corvette ZR1 around the Nurburgring in 7:19.63. Twelve raffle winners were selected for the hotlap opportunity and lucky for us, one of them uploaded the video of their hotlap to YouTube.

2011 NCRS National Convention Invades the Motor City

The National Corvette Restorers Society (NCRS) held its 2011 National Convention last week in Novi, Michigan just outside of Detroit. Hundreds of families from around the world converged on the Motor City suburb to look at, talk about, judge, and drool over pristine examples of America’s sports car. In addition to the seminars and judging events at the Suburban Collection Showplace, attendees could attend a number of tours of local attractions including visits to several GM facilities in the area. We stopped by Corvette Hospitality Day last Saturday at Waterford Hills Raceway just north of Detroit. The annual event is sponsored by Cauley Performance Automotive, Southern Motors, and DJ Race Enterprise. The relaxing day gives Corvette aficionados the opportunity to chat with other enthusiasts, drive some parade laps on the track, and to just sit back and enjoy some great local club racing featuring, of course, Corvettes in addition to a few other classes.

The highlight of the annual Bloomington Gold Corvette show each year is the judging activity. Participants from all over the country converge on the Pheasant Run Resort in St. Charles, IL each June for the once-a-year opportunity to achieve Survivor, Gold, and/or Benchmark awards. At this event, cars don’t compete against one another. Rather they compete against a standard which is the condition in which the car was delivered from the factory. “No better, no worse, no different.” Click past the jump to learn more about the judging awards and to check out some pics from this years certification judging.
