The final slate of candidates for Bloomington Gold’s Great Hall was inducted at last month’s show in Champaign, ILL. Over the last five years, Bloomington Gold has honored 50 people and 50 Corvettes who have positively impacted our hobby. This year’s inductees mark the final year of the Great Hall.
The Great Hall’s intent is to salute the pioneers of our hobby – the people, organizations, and the cars that helped create the phenomenon we know and love today. It’s their passion and drive that helped build the hobby for all of us.
One of our favorite things to do at the major Corvette shows is to walk both the show grounds and parking lots to look at the fun, witty and personality-descriptive vanity license plates that are adorned on America’s favorite sports cars.
We maintain the theory that there are two types of vanity plates. The first type describes the car while the second type is more focused on the owner. Lucky for us, Bloomington Gold offers a target rich environment where both types are on display.
Here’s your chance to support a great cause and maybe win a classic Corvette. This Sunday, a winner will be drawn in the 26th Annual Saint Bernard’s Classic Corvette Giveaway with the grand prize being a Red 1957 fuel injected Corvette. But you can’t win unless your name is on the ticket!
Mid America Motorworks is always looking for new and exciting activities for its annual Corvette Funfest.
This year’s event, set for Sept. 18-21 in Effingham, Ill., will feature a new contest between the branches of the military to see which one – the Army, Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard, Marines, National Guard, or Reserves – ends up with the most active and retired Corvette enthusiasts to register for Corvette Funfest 2014.
They’re still out there.
That’s the mantra repeated by Corvette collectors and restorers continuously in search of the next treasure that’s been tucked away out of sight for years. Sometimes those finds are rarer than others like this 1 of 3 known black/black 1965 big tank coupe on display at Bloomington Gold last weekend.
One of the great aspects of the Bloomington Gold show each year is seeing the rarest of the rare Corvettes. You never know what’s going to show up on that last weekend in June. This year’s big surprise was 1953 Corvette VIN 009. That’s right, the 9th Corvette ever built. It was being displayed for the first time since being discovered in Oregon in 2010.
The 2014 edition of The Granddaddy of all Corvette shows, Bloomington Gold, took place last weekend in Champaign, Illinois. This year was the show’s the second year on the University of Illinois campus in Champaign. Our super fantastic photo gallery from the event awaits you after the break.
Don’t look now, but it’s already the last weekend in June! To us Corvette folks that means one thing – it’s time for another installment of Bloomington Gold. The 42nd annual Bloomington Gold Corvette Show takes place this Friday, June 27th through Sunday the 29th. 2014 marks the second year on the University of Illinois campus in Champaign.
