As time ticks down to the sale of the first 2013 Corvette 427 Convertible at Barrett-Jackson this Saturday, interested buyers and enthusiasts alike are able to get up close and personal with the new car which is set up at the Chevrolet display. Our friend Chris Draper was in Scottsdale yesterday to take in Barrett-Jackson and provides these pictures of the 60th Anniversary car on display along with a first-year 1953 Corvette.
Our final preview at the January collector car auctions will focus on the activities at Gooding and Company’s and RM Auctions’ camps. You already know about 1953 VIN #5 crossing the block at RM, but they’ve also got an early Pilot 1954 in addition to an original Monaco Orange 1969 L88 Coupe up for grabs at Gooding and Company.
RM and Gooding only have a total of 9 Corvettes combined on their dockets, but what they lack in quantity, they make up for in quality.
The annual Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale auction spectacle gets underway this week with over 100 Corvettes offered on the 6-day long sales docket. As always, SPEED will have 39 hours of live coverage of the event starting Tuesday, January 17th.
The consignment team at Barrett-Jackson has assembled a diverse selection of America’s sports car for 2012. In addition the Chip Miller Charitable Foundation 1969 coupe and the first saleable VIN 2013 427 convertible, there’s everything from low-mile originals to ultra-modified cars for bidders to choose from.

The Lingenfelter name needs no introduction to Corvette enthusiasts. Now comes the good news that the first-ever Lingenfelter Performance Nationals will be held Sept. 21-23, 2012 at the Summit Motorsports Park in Norwalk, Ohio.
Each January all eyes on the automotive world focus on the North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) in Detroit. All the major carmakers roll out their latest creations and concepts for the world to see. This year General Motors created a whole new display to highlight their portfolio of products. We grabbed a couple of tickets to the ritzy charity preview event so we could check out all the good stuff before the show opened to the public.
The Chip Miller Charitable Foundation will hold a special showing of the “The Quest”, the Chip Miller/1960 Le Mans documentary this Sunday afternoon at the Arizona Biltmore in Phoenix, Arizona. In addition to screening the movie, there will be a special gathering of legendary Corvette racing drivers as well as the Corvettes they raced. Click here for ticket information.
Chevrolet’s fastest Corvette drop top, the new 2013 Corvette 427 Convertible, will be the talk of the internet today as it well should be. Somewhat buried in the press release is that the very first saleable Corvette 427 wearing what we assume will be VIN 001 is scheduled to be sold at Barrett-Jackson’s collector car auction in Scottsdale next weekend.
For Corvette fans, we have some good news/bad news from the 2012 North American International Auto show in Detroit. The good news is that Chevy introduced two new concept cars sporting cross-flags logos. The bad news is that neither of them is a Corvette.
The month of January means one thing to avid car collectors – the January auctions.
