We’re still nursing our Bloomington Gold hangover, but it’s already time to start marking up the calendar for another big-time Corvette event. Mid America Motorworks is hosting their 19th annual Corvette Funfest at their sprawling 150 acre facility in Effingham, Illinois on September 13th – 16th, 2012. Roughly 15,000 Corvettes and 40,000 enthusiasts are expected to be present at the 4-day extravaganza.
We (and Chevrolet among others) consistently refer to the Corvette at America’s Favorite Sports car. But it’s not just America that Corvette owners love to show their pride and joy. We received an email recently from Hans Tore Tangerud who shared with us a ton of photos from the 20th Anniversary of the Norwegian Corvette club. Want to see what a first class Corvette show looks like? Check out the pics after the jump!
Back in February we told you about the return of the famous B2K option package for Corvettes. To celebrate the 25th anniversary of the very first RPO B2K Corvette, Callaway Cars and Bowling Green will be building just 25 2012 Corvettes. We caught up with car #11 at Bloomington Gold last weekend.
A motorcade of Corvettes recently made its way slowly down the interstate from Illinois to Tennessee.
The hours racked up behind the wheel of the cars, however, were nothing compared to the emotions of their drivers and the joy of the children once they reached St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis.
The Corvette owners were participating in the first-ever St. Jude Corvette Drive in early May and wound up raising $50,000 for the hospital.
When it comes to custom license plates, Corvette owners are tops when it comes to unique characters, phrases, or sayings. We spent took some time this weekend wandering the grounds of the Pheasant Run Resort see what the all the Corvette owners had come up with. Click past the jump to see some of our favorite license plates from the 2012 Bloomington Gold show.
Last weekend Bloomington Gold formally inducted the 2012 honorees into The Great Hall. The 3rd class of cars features the earliest known production Corvette, 2 very famous racecars, and arguably the most famous Corvette styling car of all time. The diverse list of people and organizations consists of a Lemans winning racer, the founder of Corvette Central, and a former Corvette Chief Engineer.
The 2012 version of the Bloomington Gold Corvette Show took place last weekend in St. Charles, Illinois. Chamber of Commerce weather, a fantastic setting, and spectacular cars all combined to produce yet another memorable late-June celebration of Corvettes.
One of our favorite days of the year is once again upon us! For the last 12 years, Mid America Motorworks Chief Cheerleader Mike Yager has urged Corvette enthusiasts to drive their Corvettes to work to show the popularity of America’s Sports Car. The annual holiday is always on the Friday closest to June 30th, which of course is the official birthday of the Corvette, and so that makes this Friday, June 29th as the official day to drive your Corvette to work!
There’s a serious affliction slowly taking a hold of the Unites States which some people may not be aware of. This situation could very quickly turn into an epidemic. What is this serious concern? It’s the fact that hundreds of Chevrolet Corvettes are actively looking for a new, caring home. To help combat this problem, Mecum Auctions holds their annual Bloomington Gold all-Corvette auction each year in June. The 2012 version takes place this Saturday June 23rd at the Pheasant Run Resort in St. Charles, IL.
We made a quick stop last weekend at the 8th annual Canterbury Corvette Fest hosted by the GMC Corvette Set club. Just under 100 Corvettes were spread out around the scenic property of Olde World Canterbury Village in Lake Orion, Michigan. A photo gallery of the event lurks just beyond the jump.
