December brought a ton of snow across the country as well as 974 Corvettes for new owners. And with these final sales numbers for 2010 which arrived from General Motors this week, we can officially report total Corvette sales down -9.4% for the 2010 calendar year. The total number of Corvettes delivered in 2010 was 12,624 vs sales of 13,934 Corvettes in CY 2009.
This yellow 1973 Corvette crashed into the Quality Inn and Suites on Marketview Drive in Champaign, Illinois late Tuesday morning. Police say the 17-year old driver hit a curb, overcorrected his steering and crossed into the oncoming lane of traffic before whacking the side of the hotel. Although the hotel was structurally sound following the accident, the same can’t be said for the C3 Corvette. The driver was issued a ticket for improper lane usage.
Hagerty Insurance CEO McKeel Hagerty was asked which current crop of new cars will be the future’s most collectible. His list names the Corvette ZR1 as #2 behind the Dodge Viper. Rounding out the top 5 is the Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren, Ford GT and the Porsche Carrera GT.
For the past five years, Car and Driver magazine has featured an annual time trial competition at Virginia International Raceway (VIR) where cars are pitted against one another based on selling price. There are five classes and Corvettes can be found in both the LL2 class ($30,000-$60,000) and LL3 class ($60,000-$120,000). This latest test featured the new 2011 Corvette Z06 which was equipped with the Z07 package.
One of our favorite models of the C4 era is the 1996 Corvette Grand Sport. Just 1,000 Grand Sports were built and only 190 were convertibles. Combine the historical connotations of the 1963 Grand Sports with the 1996′s Admiral Blue and White exterior, unique VIN and a one-year-only optional V8 engine and you’ve got something that is a collector’s dream.
Normally our “Corvettes on the dyno” posts are reserved for new models like when the Corvette ZR1 first became available. But this video of a twin-turbo 2005 Corvette on the dyno is just too good to pass up. Dallas Performance is the tuner who built this 1250 hp coupe and in addition to their horsepower-increasing skills, they are pretty darn good with a camera and editing program too.
The owner of this 1958 Corvette had the typical dream to restore this C1 straight axle but never got around too it. And so it sat outside for several years in the North Georgia weather with only a tarp to protect it. The time had finally come to sell it and so the owner placed an ad for the Corvette on Craigslist early Christmas morning.

Jalopnik featured this 1980 4-seat Corvette on today’s nice price or crack pipe where visitors comment on whether or not the car for sale is worth its asking price. For $300,000 the seller is asking for is a premium price for sure and while every seller sees value in the Corvette they’re selling, some are a bit more confident than others.
