C7 Corvette Update in March 2011 Car and Driver

Car and Driver magazine has the following update on the next-generation C7 Corvette:

“The Corvette continues as front-engine, V-8 powered, but GM is reportedly working to reduce mass (or at least hold the line) to maintain C6 performance. Slightly longer than before, the C7 will have styling allegedly inspired by the split-widow ’63 Sting Ray. Interior quality, not a Corvette strength, is now a high priority, and GM has set Audi as the benchmark for materials and fits. Three versions will be offered: base, Z06 and ZR1 (base versions may be called Grand Sport). At launch, the V-8 portfolio will mirror today’s, ranging from 430 to 638 horsepower. Later, all three engines will undergo displacement reductions to improve fuel economy.”

2012 Chevy Sonic Selling Point: Suspension Tuned by Corvette Engineers

General Motors rolled out the new 2012 Chevrolet Sonic models earlier this week at the Detroit Auto Show. The sedan and hatchback models are powered by either a 1.8 liter four-cylinder or the Ecotec 1.4L turbo rated at 138 horsepower. But it was the suspensions we found interesting. Chevy says Corvette engineers provided their expertise in the ride and handling of the sub-compact.

Up Close and Personal with the Corvette Stingray Concept

By now, most of you should be familiar with the Corvette Stingray Concept that was featured in Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen. Last year the Stingray Concept hit the car show circuit which allowed the public the opportunity to take in the sleek, futuristic Corvette. Great, except for some reason it skipped the show in my hometown of Tampa. So when I saw it featured in an advertisement this weekend, I headed to the Convention center for my first opportunity to get up close and personal with Chevy’s popular Corvette concept.

[POLL] Should the C7 Corvettes Design Go Retro?

Here is a freelancer’s take on Corvette for the upcoming C7 release that’s been floating around the interwebs for quite some time now and one that keeps growing on me. The visual design cues are both modern and C3 retro without sacrificing function like the rear wheel brake cooling ducts. While the original color of this design was done in silver, someone did this great photoshop proving once again that all Corvettes should be red.

Earlier this year in May, GM filed a trademark with the US Patent and Trademark Office for the name “Stingray” for use on “motor land vehicles, namely, automobiles”. GM Executives Squash Latest C7 Corvette Rumors

I figured it would only be a matter of time before someone got hold of a GM executive for comment on the recent rumors of a mid-engine C7 Corvette equipped with a V6 and a wet dual-clutch transmission. Vice President of Global Vehicle Engineering Karl-Friedrich Stracke spoke with Automotive News and Autoweek on Tuesday and said the next-generation Corvette C7 will not be a mid-engine sports car and no V6 is planned or being tested.

Autoweek Calls for a Twin Turbo V6 Powered C7 Corvette

Autoweek Calls for a Twin Turbo V6 Powered C7 Corvette

Autoweek, through its sister publication Automotive News, included some future product news for Chevrolet in yesterday’s News Brake which includes a couple nuggets on the C7 Corvette. The podcast tells us nothing new and I’m having flashbacks to Chief Engineer Tadge Juechter’s rant back in April when he called out the automotive magazines for making up stories which contain pure speculation and no facts to support the argument. Now that I’ve set the table, let’s see what Autoweek is serving.

[RUMOR] UK Blog Quotes Saab Engineer: Mid Engined Corvette Confirmed

According to the UK car site Autocar, the mid-engine Corvette project is back online. That is if you believe an unnamed source from Saab engineering. Talk of mid-engined Corvettes have been around since 1960′s CERV-I so its no surprise that the rumor is back now that General Motors has moved beyond last year’s financial difficulties. As easy as it would be to discount the story, and some blogs have, there may be some truth based on what we know from the GM-UAW Strike of 2007.
