C6 Corvette

Corvette Z06 C6.R Tribute

This Corvette Z06 was parked at the entrance of the Corvette Corral at last week’s Petit Le Mans at Road Atlanta. I had asked around for the owner but we never did hook up so details on this conversion are light at best. But obviously, the owner is a huge Corvette racing fan and his Z06 nearly replicates the look of the GT1 Corvette C6.Rs.

Green Interactive Hybrid System Corvette

Neohydro Technologies has perfected its twin turbo system for the C6 Corvette. While the usual performance benefits of a turbo system are present: 775 horsepower and 691 Ft-lb of torque, the real trick on this install is better fuel economy which raises the mileage standard to 40 mpg around town and 32 mpg on the highway.

Neohydro calls their revolutionary twin turbo system the “Green Interactive Hybrid System”. The company installs a patented rear-mounted turbo system and then gives it an advanced custom tune that increases the efficiency of the car. Neohydro claims their GIHS system will not only boost horsepower and fuel efficiency, but when purchased with a new GM vehicle, the GIHS system is covered under the full factory warranty.

While turbo charging is typically used to create more power, one of the benefits is that it also helps create more power with less effort. On the rear-mounted turbo install, the compressed air runs back to the intercooler and then into the engine. Neohydro claims rear-mounted turbo systems are superior to traditional engine-mounted systems because they are efficient, less intrusive, easier to install and are very reliable. The GIHS turbo systems are legal in all 50 states.

Corvette Magazine heard about the GIHS turbo Corvette and recently put the car through its paces. Corvette Magazine’s Editor Eric Gustafson said the Corvette is “very fast” and “its a very neat installation. It’s nice to get into an aftermarket modified car without the check engine light on.” Look for the full review to run in March 2010 issue which hits newsstands in January.

A Hot Lap Around Road Atlanta in a 2010 Corvette Grand Sport

by Keith Cornett on September 25, 2009

Thanks to the folks at Chevy Racing, we had the unique opportunity to take a hot lap around Road Atlanta where Petit Le Mans will run on Saturday. The course is 2.54 miles and features 12 turns. My ride was silver 2010 Corvette Grand Sport Coupe and my driver Jason put the car through its paces. On the monsterous backstretch our speed exceed 130 mph and those big Z06 brakes safely brought us to a near stand still for the bend at Turn 10.

Chevrolet designed the Grand Sport with track events in mind and I can tell you first hand they hit a home run with this car!

Chevy Launches Webpage Dedicated 2010 Corvette Grand Sport

Like it did with last year’s launch of the 2009 Corvette ZR1, Chevy has set up a dedicated webpage to the newest Corvette model, the 2010 Grand Sport. The site contains eight photos and a description of the Grand Sport. There is also a link for downloading a PDF brochure of all 2010 Corvette models.

Checking the regular Corvette website, we see that it still contains information relating to the 2009 models. Historically, the main Corvette website site keeps the previous model year online even as the factory is producing the new models. We speculate that this is to help sell as much remaining 2009 inventory as possible before introducing visitors to the 2010 model information.

The 12-page PDF brochure is very nicely produced and contains information and photos on all 4 Corvette models: Base Coupe & Convertible, Grand Sport, Z06 and the ZR1.

You can find 2010 Corvettes arriving now to dealers. In fact, we heard from Kerbeck Corvette that they now have over 60 new 2010 Corvettes in stock. If you are interested in ordering a new 2010 Corvette or seeing what they have on the lot now, give him a call at 877-537-2325 or visit Kerbeck Corvette.

2010 Corvette Grand Sport LS3 Dry Sump Oil System Explained

The Dry Sump Lubrication System has been around now for several years as a standard option on the Corvette Z06 and the ZR1. But the with release of the 2010 Corvette Grand Sport, its the first that the system has been installed on the base LS3 engine. GM Assistant Chief Engineer for Small-Block Passenger Car Engines John Rydzweski gives us a tour of LS3′s dry sump system and we learn some interesting tidbits including where these engines are assembled.

As we’ve discussed previously, the Corvette Grand Sport program replaces the popular Z51 Performance package. With the manual Coupe version, Chevy takes the performance of the LS3 to a new level with the addition of the dry sump oil lubrication system. The system minimizes oil starvation during hard cornering.

A little know fact is that these dry-sump LS3 engines are assembled by hand alongside the LS7 and LS9 engines at the Performance Build Center at Wixom. Just like the Z06 and ZR1 power plants, these engines contain a badge with the builder’s name. They also go through the same quality tests before being shipped to Bowling Green.

Want an LS3 with the dry sump package? You’ll only find it on the 2010 Corvette Grand Sport Coupe equipped with a manual 6-speed transmission.

August 2009 Corvette Sales

by Keith Cornett on September 2, 2009

Corvette sales have sunk to their lowest point since the beginning of the automotive recession which started the second half of 2008. In August, GM delivered 746 Corvettes, down from 966 in July and -82% off the 4,242 Corvettes delivered in the same time period a year ago. For the calendar year (Jan-Aug) there have been 9,210 Corvettes delivered, a decline of -56.3% from 2008 sales of 21,066.

Australian 2009 Corvette ZR1 Gets Right Hand Drive

This 2009 Corvette ZR1 was imported into Australia and received a right hand drive conversion from the Corvette Clinic in Bundoora, Victoria. This is just the first of America’s King of the Hill to receive the RHD treatment which allows the cars to be fully registerable in all Australian states. According to the Corvette Clinic, two more Corvette ZR1s, a Victory Red and a Cyber Gray model, will soon get the conversion as well.

Converting a Corvette to right hand drive isn’t an easy task. The Corvette Clinic created a new dash and had to remanufacture some of the steering components to make it work. What I like about their ZR1 conversion is that they were also able to move the 6-Speed transmission shifter knob to the right side of the center console as well.

First Look: Arctic White 2010 Corvette ZR1

by Keith Cornett on August 25, 2009

Arctic White 2010 Corvette ZR1

You are looking at what could very well be the very first 2010 Corvette ZR1 finished in stunning Arctic White. Recent changes in production now allow all 2010 Corvette models to be available in all eight exterior colors. Although Arctic White has never been a big seller with last year’s production numbers topping just 5%, it seems to flow exceptionally well and the Blue Devil’s exposed LS9 cowl and blue brake calipers provide well-intended accents.

Chevrolet Releases 2010 Corvette Grand Sport Videos

Last Friday you may have seen a slew of online coverage from the auto blogs and magazines detailing “First Drive” reviews of the new 2010 Corvette Grand Sport. In addition to the third party reviews, the Corvette team has also made a smart move by producing a couple of online videos introducing the newest Corvette model as well as demonstrating Launch Control, the newest feature available on all Corvette models with manual transmissions.

Here are the two videos uploaded to Chevrolet’s YouTube account:

By releasing their own videos, the Corvette Team is assured that the introduction of the new Corvette and its (awesome) launch control feature could be shown in the way they wanted. The videos also broaden the audience by providing content to other web sites (ie CorvetteBlogger) that weren’t invited to the media test-drive, but would have been there had they been asked.

It also follows the promise of new GM Communications guru “Maximum” Bob Lutz to fully engage social media platforms to get the company’s message and their products past the traditional media gatekeepers and straight into the hands of the end consumer.

Autoblog First Drive: 2010 Chevrolet Corvette Grand Sport

by Keith Cornett on August 20, 2009

2010 Chevrolet Corvette Grand Sport

With the 2010 Corvette Grand Sport, GM was able to introduce a new Corvette model with a storied nameplate into the Corvette lineup. Fitting between the base Coupe and Convertible models and the track-ready Z06, the Grand Sport offers the best of both upgraded looks and performance without the premium price.

Autoblog got an opportunity to drive the new 2010 Corvette Grand Sport around GM’s Milford Road Course, commonly know as the “Lutz Ring”. Click here to read their First Drive review.
