Fitting nicely into our recent theme of green Corvettes comes this video from somewhere in Europe featuring a Corvette Z06 powered by natural gas. The oval track was measured at 400 feet in circumference and our hero in the lime-green Z06 drifted 25 complete rotations for a total of 9,925 feet. The previous record is mentioned in the video at 6,285 feet.

The Highway Loss Data Institute’s recent report about insurance claims for theft during 2007-09 includes the Corvette Z06 on its list. So are Corvettes and particularly the lower production, high performance Corvette Z06 stolen that often to make the HLDI’s “Most Stolen List”? The surprising answer is no.
GM released the sales figures for July this morning and for the first time since 2006, we have two consecutive months of growth in Corvette sales. While June 2010′s sales increase was a paltry 0.6%, July 2010 showed better results with a 19.5% sales increase over July 2009′s sales. Last month 1,199 Corvettes were delivered, 233 more than July 2009′s Corvette sales. For the calendar year to date, sales are 7,554 Corvettes delivered which is now just -10.8% off the 8,464 Corvettes delivered during the same time period last year.
Last time we were on the subject of Corvettes painted green, we were talking Dark Bowling Green Metallic and the color similar to that which was featured on the Allstate 400 Corvette Grand Sport that ran at the Brickyard a couple weekends ago. Well, today we’re going to take you the opposite direction with a color so green, you’ll either love it or hate it. Here is a custom 2010 Corvette Grand Sport offered for sale by Colorado Chevy Dealer Purifoy which borrows the limited edition Synergy Green from Camaro and gets all crazy with it. You think that exterior is bold, when you see Jake embroidered on the seats, you’ll be green with envy.
Today at 12 noon EST, GM held a live chat featuring Performance Build Center’s manager Carl Pickman, engine builder John Ross and John Fitzpatrick, Corvette’s Marketing Manager. While the conversation was centered on the new Corvette Engine Build Experience, the staff also answered several technical questions about the LS engines and the PBC. Check out the transcript.
Earlier this month, GM set the automotive world ablaze with news of the Build Your Engine experience for Corvette Z06 and ZR1 buyers. Tomorrow, GM is giving you a chance to chat directly with a couple of the guys from Wixom’s Performance Build Center where the LS7 and LS9 engines are assembled.
No, we’re not talking about an ethanol burning E85-capable Corvette like the Z06 that paced the 2008 Indianapolis 500. We’re talking about Green as in “Bowling Green Metallic” – the most recent shade of Green that last graced Corvettes in 2001. This weekend, NASCAR’s Brickyard 400 will be paced by this Green and White Corvette Grand Sport Coupe while Arctic White Corvette Grand Sport Convertibles will serve as Festival (parade) cars.
Check out this former 2008 Hertz rent-a-car Corvette ZHZ that has been customized to look like the 2012 Corvette Stingray Concept that appears as Sideswipe in Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen. The Corvette is listed on eBay and with 3 days left in the auction, 6 bids have run the price up to $35,200 with the reserve not yet met.
One of the concerns we’ve had over the past few months is the growing inventory surplus of Corvette ZR1s. Since January this year, the amount of available Corvette ZR1s has grown from 175 units to over 500 at the beginning of July. GM has obviously seen the trend as well and has decided to offer the very first rebates for the 638-horsepower supercharged Corvette.
