New Corvette Sales took a major step backwards according to the November 2010 Sales Report issued by General Motors. A total of 836 Corvettes were sold during the month of November, ending the streak of seven consecutive months of sales over 1,000 units. It’s the second worst month for sales in 2010 behind February’s 624 deliveries. Calendar year-to-date sales total 11,645 which is -9.7% off the 12,901 deliveries year to date in 2009.
NASCAR’s Jimmie Johnson, NFL star running back DeAngelo Williams and Corvette Racing’s Johnny O’Connell will get behind the wheel of various Corvette models for the premiere of SPEED’s original series Test Drive. Hosted by Tommy Kendall, the Corvette test drives will take place on the streets surrounding Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte, N.C and Carolina Motorsports Park (CMP) in Kershaw S.C. The show airs next Wednesday, December 8th at 10:30 pm EST so get those DVR’s set. For a bit of a preview, check out the advance photos we got from SPEED.
Finally, we have some exciting news regarding the 2011 Corvette Z06 Carbon Edition! Every couple of months since 2011 Corvette production started, I’ve been firing off emails to assorted Corvette team members asking about the start of production for the Carbon Edition and how much will it cost. Today we learned that production is expected to start sometime in early 1st Quarter 2011. And the price? Corvette’s Product Marketing Manager Harlan Charles tells us the 2011 Corvette Z06 will MSRP at $90,960 and if you select all the option boxes, a loaded 2011 Z06 Carbon Edition will sell for $99,925.
Cliff Cohen, GM Performance Parts, is joined with Ken Lingenfelter of Lingenfelter Performance Engineering at Spring Mountain Motorsports park prior to the start of the 2010 SEMA show. Ken brought out a 710 hp Corvette ZR1 and discusses some of the parts and performance know-how that is being licensed from Lingenfelter to GM Performance Parts.
The Rossi SixtySix and its designer David R paid a visit to Jay Leno’s garage for some quality time with the late night host. Longtime readers of CorvetteBlogger know of our affection for the retro-looking rebodied C6 that the Rossi SixtySix inspires. But now the SixtySix’s first real test comes from a passionate Corvette enthusiast whose collection focuses more on later model performance than classic midyear fiberglass.
Each year, the hottest car designs are showcased at SEMA in Las Vegas. This year was no different, as the Chevy Corvette and Chevy Camaro were among those that showed off new packages. Both featured carbon fiber attributes and designs inspired from the ALMS Corvette C6.R, built by the Pratt & Miller team. Here is another official video from Chevy featuring designers Dave Ross and Adam Barry talking about the Jake Edition Corvette and the Z06x track car, as well as the other SEMA show vehicles which included Camaro and Silverado.
Last week General Motors released the monthly sales report and for the seventh straight month, the number of Corvettes remained higher than 1,000 units. But is there bad news on the horizon? October’s delivery of 1,011 Corvettes marked the sixth straight decline from May’s 1,428 deliveries. October’s sales lagged -12.4% from the 1,154 Corvettes delivered a year ago and year to date sales are running -9.5%.
Chevy’s Marketing Manager of Performance Cars John Fitzpatrick and Gary Mulder, GM Performance Division and builder of the SEMA track concept cars were out at Spring Mountain to talk about the Camaro SSx and the Corvette Z06x. Interest in the Z06x track car is very high but according to Fitzpatrick, the concept exists only as a test bed to showcase the racing accessories available from GM Performance Parts, as well as Pratt and Miller and Pfadt Race Engineering.

Exhibition Corvettes were abundant at the show this year. Let’s face it; Corvettes make great eye-candy for any manufacturer who wants the traffic to stop at their booth. GM also brought a few interesting Corvettes and a classic on a trailer behind a new dually. If you had the time, you could watch the factory guys assemble (and disassemble) the powerplant for the ZR1. And yes, the E-rod Corvette was front and center. The yet to be released carbon fiber Z06 in Supersonic Blue was complete with factory applied race numbers. Jake was looking full of attitude in his newest rendition.
