The monthly sales report came out last week while we were at the SEMA show so we’re just now getting around to taking a look at it. The news isn’t great as sales of Corvettes in October slipped to 946 for the month. That is a -6.4% decline from sales in October 2010. For the calendar year-to-date sales, Corvettes sales are still pacing at 3.8% more than 2010 with 11,216 Corvettes sold January-October.
The Corvette Z06 Ron Fellows ‘Hall of Fame’ Tribute was one of two Corvette concepts that General Motors brought with them to SEMA this year. The Red and White Corvette was the featured display at the Spring Mountain Motorsports Ranch / Ron Fellows Driving School booth in the adjoining hall. We took many photos of the tribute car and we also have a video of Ron Fellows showing off his personalized special edition Corvette Z06 at Chevrolet’s introduction event held last Monday.
Corvettes were in plentiful supply at SEMA and we made an attempt to photograph each and every one we could find. That meant walking every aisle and outdoor space at the show. But we sacrificed for you our readers because you deserve no less. And so after the jump, we present the Corvettes of SEMA.
You know we love Corvette Racing here on CorvetteBlogger and whenever we see a tribute to the yellow and black C6.Rs, we have to stop and take a closer look. This particular Corvette was found outside the main entrance to the SEMA show and was a constant source of admiration from attendees who were passing by.
Known to auto enthusiasts worldwide for his outlandish custom car creations for such TV shows as The Munsters, Beverly Hillbillies, Knightrider and most notably, the Batmobile for Batman and Robin, George Barris has recently focused his talents on a another “bat themed” custom design and a 2005 Corvette was his canvas.
Congratulations to the St. Louis Cardinals and their MVP 3rd baseman David Freese. Freese hit .348 during the series with a home run and seven RBIs and the three runs he drove in during Game 6 kept the Cards alive to go all the way. As the series Most Valuable Player, Chevrolet awarded him a 2012 Corvette Centennial Edition Grand Sport.
We received an email from a Corvette owner living in England this week who wanted to share his appreciation of Corvettes with those of us living in the States. Brian and his wife Angie joined two other couples for a European road trip through France, Germany and Switzerland. Some of prettiest scenery on Earth looks even better behind the wheel of a Corvette.
With SEMA coming up next week, we’ve been wondering what the General will have in store for Corvette fans at the show and now we have the answer! In a sea of Camaros and the sporty new Sonics, you’ll find two “tribute” Corvettes at the 2011 show: The Ron Fellows “Hall of Fame” Corvette Z06 and the Corvette Carlisle Blue Grand Sport Concept.
We’ve documented several times here and here the hilarity that ensues when an unsuspecting person gets trapped in a Corvette due to the battery being dead. Unless you’re familiar with the manual release lever on the floor, you’re stuck in a fiberglass box, or a holding cell as one would-be auto thief in Canada found out the hard way.
