The 18th annual Hot Rod Power Tour is well underway this week and yesterday, the traveling performance car show stopped at Mid America Motorworks Effingham, IL campus for a hot lunch and a one-of-a-kind car show.
Some 3,000 hot rods, including over 130 Corvettes, were making their way from the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign to the Gateway International Raceway on what was the 4th day of the 7 day tour that started in Detroit and ends in Arlington, Texas.
Here is yet another case of a Corvette owner trying to show off and failing miserably but being very fortunate at the same time. This video comes from a Cars and Coffee get together in Dallas. Like many of these popular Cars and Coffee events that take place around the country, there is sometimes a show put on by attendees when they leave the premises. Unfortunately for our hero in this C5 Z06, it didn’t go quite as planned.
You can say this for Dan Morocco of Andover, Massachusetts. He isn’t afraid of a challenge.
After taking seven years to successfully build an airplane from a kit, he decided to tackle another kit project – this time, a two-seater super car based on the C5 Corvette.

But now Mid America Motorworks is offering a great solution to those of us who have to store their Corvettes outside.
The new Diamond Car Cover features five revolutionary layers of waterproof and ultraviolet resistant material to keep your Corvette safe and sound from the elements.
A Corvette once associated with a drug dealer is now helping Bartlett, Tennessee police teach youngsters about the dangers of drugs and alcohol.
The 1999 model has been adorned with patriotic decals as part of the DARE program, or Drug Abuse Resistance Education, which aims to show fourth and fifth graders how to keep peer pressure from making them succumb to drugs and alcohol.
We’ve heard about obsessive-compulsive owners who won’t drive their Corvette if there is even a 10 percent chance of rain in the forecast five days from now. We even heard about one guy who parked his ‘Vette underneath a car wash during a storm to wait it out – while on a date with his future wife!
Apparently the dude on this video, however, didn’t get the memo that Corvettes are something to be treasured and taken care of.
I wouldn’t technically call this a fail as fail usually denotes that the person behind the wheel of the car is somehow at fault for doing something stupid. So having said that, we came across an instagram tweet late this afternoon from @chrisgoulet that said the following:
“Has anyone seen my #vette? #corvette #fail”
We retweeted the photo and asked for details. @ChrisGoulet replied:
“Construction + double-lane left-hand turn = side-swiped and run off the road.”
