A 1968 Corvette Stolen a Decade Ago Found in Aussie Shipping Container

Kids figured out long ago that you just never know what might be waiting in that big box when you open it on your birthday.

Well, that philosophy recently took an unusual turn down under.

Wharf inspectors in Brisbane, Australia finally opened a shipping container which had been sitting undisturbed on the docks for a decade and lo and behold discovered a stolen 1968 Corvette resting inside. The owner had reported the white convertible with a black top stolen 10 years ago and apparently went on his merry way after receiving an insurance payout.

A 1969 Corvette is providing a chance for a father and son to come closer together as they work side by side to restore the classic Chevrolet.

Jason Tueller, 21, and his 53-year-old dad, Shayne Tueller, say the restoration project is also providing them a chance to heal after the unexpected death last year of Jason’s sister, Jessica Tueller, 25.

Mecum Auctions will offer roughly 165 Corvettes for sale this week as part of their 2nd annual Dallas auction. The event kicks off Wednesday, September 5th and runs through Saturday, September 8th. The venerable Velocity crew will have 18 hours of live auction coverage from the event. According to the Mecum website over 900 total cars are currently consigned and Corvettes make up almost 20% of the docket. We’ve closed the hood on yet another Corvettes at Carlisle show weekend. The 31st annual event was held last weekend at the Carlisle Fairgrounds in Carlisle, PA. After a shortened event last year due to Hurricane Irene, we were glad to see this show back firing on all cylinders. Great weather nearly all weekend provided the perfect backdrop on one of the best Carlisle shows yet.

One of the highlights of the annual Corvettes at Carlisle show is the burnout contest held on Friday afternoon. After a long day at looking at beautiful Corvettes parked across the Corvette America FunField, it seems owners love to have a seat in the grandstands and watch someone absolutely thrash their car in a brutal test of man and machine.

Stepping up to the plate and winning the King of Hill contest was John Marshall and his highly modified 1972 Corvette Coupe. When a man thanks his “crew chief”, you know he’s a serious contender.
