Like it has for so many fans of the Corvette since 1953, sometimes reality has to come roaring to the forefront.
Take Charlie Snook, for example.
He was recently chosen as the winner of the Stafford Fire Department’s 30th annual Corvette raffle in New York.
The Mecum auction is one of the main attractions at Bloomington Gold each year. This year over 100 Corvettes representing all 6 generations arrived in Champaign in search of new homes. If you didn’t find what you were looking for in the Bloomington’s GoldMine, odds are that you could have found it running through the auction tent. Read on to see the top 11 Corvette sales at the 2013 Mecum Bloomington Gold auction.
At any car show we always enjoy taking a peak at what witty things owners select on their vanity plates. We all know that Corvette owners are the best when it comes to unique characters, phrases, or sayings on their license plates. So as we always do, set aside some time last weekend at Bloomington Gold to check out what the Corvette owners had chosen to adorn their rides.
Last weekend marked the 4th installment of Bloomington Gold’s Great Hall. The 4th class of honorees was one of the best yet. The Corvette inductees included the legendary 1963 Grand Sport, the first big block, and the mighty 2009 ZR-1. The people and organizations category featured the godfather of the Corvette, the founder of Carlisle Events, and the Flying Dentist among others.
John Mrock is one of those lucky folks who has owned the same split window Corvette since the late 1960s.
Not only that, but he also has some great memories of cruising in that 1963 ’Vette along some of the best beaches in the world while he was stationed in Hawaii during a stint in the Navy.
Bloomington Gold’s long awaited move to Champaign, Illinois took place last weekend as the show celebrated its 40th anniversary there. It was a year of firsts in 2013: the first year in a new location, the first year for the GoldAutocross, the first year of a new judging schedule, and the first year for the C7’s to attend. Our wrap up from Bloomington Gold 2013 awaits you after the break.
Sometimes a car is more than a car. Take Larry Clement’s 1963 Corvette convertible, for example.
A member of the Class of ’63 at Newton High School in Newton, Iowa, Larry brought the Corvette to their 50th reunion in June, and it immediately became a symbol of the successes enjoyed by the class in 1963 and ever since, including his two close friends, Tom Ross and Jim Getz.
Some special “guests” will help Corvette celebrate its 60th anniversary at the Rolex Monterey Motorsport Reunion at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca in August.
The reunion, set for August 16-18, will feature two and perhaps even three of the legendary Corvette Grand Sport models from the 1960s.
It’s the last full weekend in June which means one thing to Corvette enthusiasts – It’s Bloomington Gold weekend. That also means it’s time for the annual Mecum auction at Bloomington Gold. At last check there were just over 100 Corvettes consigned for this weekend’s sale in Champaign, Illinois. Mecum Bloomington Gold will take place this Saturday, June 29th on the Assembly Hall grounds on the University of Illinois campus as part of the Bloomington Gold Corvette show.
