We’ve closed the hood on yet another Corvettes at Carlisle show weekend. The 31st annual event was held last weekend at the Carlisle Fairgrounds in Carlisle, PA. After a shortened event last year due to Hurricane Irene, we were glad to see this show back firing on all cylinders. Great weather nearly all weekend provided the perfect backdrop on one of the best Carlisle shows yet.
After working this weekend to ensure that Corvettes at Carlisle, one of the largest Corvette shows in the country, went off successfully without a hitch, Carlisle Event’s co-owner Lance Miller is now responding to Dan Mathis Jr’s claims that his family is the owner of the #1 1960 Briggs Cunningham Corvette that ran at the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
Miller emailed CorvetteBlogger.com a copy of the letter he sent to New York Times writer Jerry Garrett who has covered the saga of the former race car’s ownership dispute on his Garrett on the Road blog from the beginning.
It’s been a busy couple of week with the Woodward Dream Cruise and Corvettes at Carlisle running on consecutive weekends. The saga surrounding the #1 Briggs Cunningham Corvette that raced at the 1960 24 Hours of Le Mans took another surprising turn over the weekend after its planned public unveiling Friday at Corvettes at Carlisle was abruptly canceled due to undisclosed security concerns. We have now learned that a Florida resident is claiming that the Corvette belonged to his father and says it was stolen from their backyard in 1976.
Mystery continues to surround this 1957 Corvette drag car that was found covered by vines and other plant growth, barely visible in a field located in an undisclosed state, definitely a long way from its heyday as a racer.

General Motors Chairman and CEO Dan Akerson had his 1958 Corvette on display at the Dream Cruise after earlier announcing that he’ll donate proceeds from the sale to Habitat for Humanity Detroit, which is trying to bring the Morningside Commons neighborhood on the city’s lower east side back to life.
As presenting sponsor of the 2012 Woodward Dream Cruise, Chevrolet celebrated the 60th Anniversary of the Corvette by showcasing a special timeline featuring milestone models of America’s Sports throughout its storied history.
The Corvette timeline was segmented by the six generations of Corvettes and the board behind the cars listed the significant developments that occurred during those years. Most of the Corvettes featured in the timeline came from the GM Heritage Center but there were also a lot of 2013 Corvettes on display as well.
A long-time Corvette restorer and NCRS member, Troy Pyles, volunteered for the task of examining the three cars, with the goal of improving and ensuring the accuracy of the current handbook and adding any newly found details. He talked first with David Brigham, the 1953-55 Corvette Judging Leader, to seek out all the knowledge he has collected through the years, before heading on to Effingham, Ill.
