It’s the last full weekend in June which means one thing to Corvette enthusiasts – It’s Bloomington Gold weekend. That also means it’s time for the annual Mecum auction at Bloomington Gold. At last check there were just over 100 Corvettes consigned for this weekend’s sale in Champaign, Illinois. Mecum Bloomington Gold will take place this Saturday, June 29th on the Assembly Hall grounds on the University of Illinois campus as part of the Bloomington Gold Corvette show.
Russo and Steele will be out in sunny southern California this weekend for their Newport Beach sale. The 3 day event will take place at the Newport Dunes Waterfront Resort. 1953 Corvette VIN #083 is just one of the stars of the Corvette docket and will cross the auction block somewhere between 8:30 and 8:50pm local time on Saturday, June 22nd.
It looks as if the parties in a lawsuit about the Briggs Cunningham Le Mans Corvette race car will be taking another lap around the track after a judge’s ruling this week.
The battle has already been going on for nine months after a 1960 Corvette commissioned by Briggs Cunningham for the 1960 24 Hours of Le Mans race turned up during a promotion at last year’s Corvettes at Carlisle.
Mecum Auctions held their annual 2013 Spring Classic last month in Indianapolis. Over the course of the event, the Mecum team rolled 1,716 vehicles across the block. Of those, 1,156 were hammered sold for a 68% sell-through rate. We already told you about the black and blue 1967 convertible which sold for $610,000 to take top Corvette honors. Dana Mecum’s spectacular annual Spring Indy Auction is now history and though the auction set pricing records with two Mustangs that sold for over a million dollars each, it was more of a “mixed bag” when it came to Corvettes.
It was really no surprise to see the 200 quality Corvettes Mecum uncovered and offered for sale just prior to his Bloomington Gold Events which is totally Corvette focused. And it was the quality level of Corvettes which accounted for the good and bad news.

Bill Ogden is proof of that.
His miraculous story begins way back in October 1961 when he was in his 20s and bought a white 1962 Corvette with red interior, a 327/340 engine in the bay. Proving the power of marketing a car with a TV show, Ogden had been infatuated with Corvettes ever since he saw one on “Route 66.”

Auctions America will be hosting their annual Spring Carlisle auction this weekend at the Carlisle Expo Center in Carlisle, PA. Sales will begin at 3pm April 25th and 26th. Over 200 cars are currently listed online to cross the block including almost 20 Corvettes.
