As Barn Finds goes, this one is a bit more interesting than most. Here is a vintage 1958 Corvette that was raced hard and put away wet as my dad would say. Owned and raced by James Huskey in the Houston, Texas area, this Corvette was terrorizing tracks throughout the 60s-70s before being put into storage where is sat for over 30 years. Auction ends soon so check it out.
GM released the sales figures for June today and the report shows Corvette sales holding steady with 1,405 deliveries. This is a decrease of just 23 Corvettes over May 2010′s 1,428 Corvettes. However, if you recall our analysis of May’s numbers, you’ll remember that deliveries were the highest since September 2009. So the fact that Corvette sales were nearly identical to May is good news. Want even more good news? Calendar year sales shows an increase of 0.6% over June’s 2009 1,396 deliveries.
Mecum’s Collector Car auction wrapped up the 2 day sale at the Bloomington Gold Corvette Show in suburban Chicago on Saturday. When the last gavel fell, Mecum had sold 138 of 321 Corvettes for a sales success rate of 43% and a sales total of $4,553,550.
Here is a very nice original 1968 Corvette Convertible that crossed the auction block on Friday’s broadcast of the 2010 Barrett-Jackson Collector Car Auction in Orange County, California. Is it worth the $35,200 selling price? Watch the video and see our analysis after the jump.
Mecum’s auction at Bloomington Gold sold 63 of 123 Corvettes today bringing in $1.19 million in sales. That’s a 51% success rate. The top seller was a 1957 Cascade Green Roadster which sold for $80,500 while $3,500 purchased a rather tired looking 1984 Coupe. Six of the top ten sales leaders were midyear Corvettes. Today at 12 Noon Eastern, Mecum will kick off two days of high performance bliss by hosting the auction at the Bloomington Gold Corvette show in St. Charles, Illinois. Over 275 Corvettes are already on the docket and we’re sure a few more have been added last minute. Bloomington Gold is always a great auction to watch because its the one sale that features the creme de la creme of Corvettes, especially the lots on Saturday.
Barrett-Jackson Collector Car Auction is kicking off their new Orange County event this Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The three day auction will televised by SPEED and the docket currently contains 31 Corvettes. With Orange County considered the birthplace of customizing and hotrods, it seems appropriate that nearly a third of the Corvettes are customs and resto-mods.
Most Corvette enthusiasts are familiar with the legendary L88 package which was essentially a collection of limited edition racing parts installed on the L71 427/435 hp engine. I would also say that most are not that familiar with the 1970-72 ZR1 package which essentially did the same with the LT-1 350 ci small block. Much rarer than the 216 L88s made the three years prior, only 53 ZR1 Corvettes were produced during the three year span making them the rarest of all Chevy small blocks. So its a pretty big deal when one shows up for sale like this 1972 Corvette ZR1 which was recently listed for sale on eBay.
RM Auctions had the pleasure to sell off a private collection of automobiles in Saturday’s Classic Muscle and Modern Performance sale in San Diego, California. The collection was heavy on Pontiac GTOs, Corvettes and other classic muscle cars along with a nice mix of modern performance cars including an AMG tuned Mercedes-Benz and several BMWs. Two of the Corvettes that garnered much attention at the no-reserve auction were 1969 L88 Corvettes which sold for a combined $560,000.
