Corvettes on eBay: The 1968/74 Delmo Johnson Race Car

by Keith Cornett on February 19, 2010

Delmo Johnson's Last Corvette

Texas legend Delmo Johnson is one of the pioneers of Corvette road racing with a career that goes back to the early days. His lengthy list of significant Corvette racers he has piloted include Grand Sports #003 and #004 and C1 and C2 Corvettes raced under the Gulf Oil banner. In the early 1990′s, after many years in retirement, some friends encouraged him to come out and race one more time and this 1968/74 Corvette was his ride.

Wicked 1963 Corvette Grand Sport Recreation

I don’t refer to many Corvettes as “wicked” but I was flipping through eBay’s Corvette listings tonight and this serious-looking 1963 Corvette Grand Sport recreation caught my eye. Painted Silver with a Black stripe, the Grand Sport’s coupe body just rocks. Under the hood rocks too with a Chevrolet 464 crate engine mated to a 6-speed transmission.

Corvettes on eBay: #1 of 5 1993 Lister Corvette

by Keith Cornett on October 6, 2009

Corvettes on eBay: #1 of 5 1993 Lister Corvette

Say hello to a 1993 Lister Corvette. Created by Lister North America back in the early nineties, this custom-bodied C4 Corvette was treated to upgrades both inside and out. Under the hood, the Chevy LT1 V8 was stroked to 383 cubic inches and a Vortech supercharger provides plenty of power. On the outside, custom body panels, Fikse wheels and an upgraded interior add to the package.

Back in the mid to late 1950′s, British-based Lister produced lightweight tubular framed sports cars that competed with Jaguar and Aston Martin. While earlier cars were powered by a D-Jag inline 6, in 1959 the Lister’s got themselves a redesigned aerodynamic aluminum bodies powered by Chevrolet V8 engines. These new Lister’s attempted to cash in on that the heritage, but the concept never took off and only 5 cars were produced.

This Lister offered has an interesting past as it was the first Corvette of the Lister series. Following the car’s debut at the 1993 Los Angeles International Auto Show, it then served as a development mule for Vortech superchargers where it graced the covers of several Corvette magazines.

The next owner took the Lister’s performance to the edge. The 5.7 liter LT-1 was stroked to 383 cubic inches and outfitted with Air Flow Research aluminum heads, Lunati forged steel reciprocating parts, Crane roller cam, Wiesco pistons, 58mm throttle body and on and on and on. Complementing the upgrades under the hood is a bevy of yellow and chrome trim. No-so complimentary is the faux side exhaust which in our opinion detracts from the appearance.

The Corvette has just over 7,000 miles on the clock and comes with a ton of documentation. Back in 2003, the car was featured at Barrett-Jackson where it traded hands for $54,000. Yesterday, the Corvette’s auction on eBay ended with a no-sale at $17,700. If you’re interested in this unique conversion, contact Viva Las Vegas Autos.

1970 Corvette Convertible with LT-1 V8

Prolific Corvette buyer and seller Terry Michaelis of Proteam recently listed these three highly collectible Corvettes on his blog tMichaelis Corvette Perspective. The three cars, a 1963 Corvette Coupe, a 1968 T-Top Corvette and a 1970 Converitible, would be coveted by any collector, yet Terry’s cars always seem to have that extra bit of provenance that pushes them to the top.

1963 Corvette Sting Ray Sport Coupe

1053A..1963 Corvette Split Window Coupe, 327-360 hp, (fuelie), 4 speed, numbers match (appears to be the real deal) and has the factory original body/trim tag. Sebring Silver paint with Black interior. Body-off restored in show condition with a GM OEM body. NCRS certified in June 2009. Motor, transmission, and rear end numbers are all matching, sequential, and appear to be the real deal. This is as good as I have seen for quite some time (TM). Optioned with T-10 transmission, 3.36 posi, Wonderbar radio, fuel injection, aluminized exhaust, hubcaps, and white stripe radials. Most all factory correct type components including the spare, jack, jack tools, seat belts, washer system, tar top battery, shifter, shielding, air cleaner, alternator, idler pulley, F.I. unit, F.I. fuel filter, exhaust heat shields, roller gas door assembly, long base mirror, glove box door, cookie tin hood, owners manual, sales brochure, and T-3 headlights. Documented with the NCRS certificate, ribbon, judging sheets, restoration photos, and owner history. From past owner of 29 years. Looks, runs, and drives excellent. CC:1 $169,000.00

1968 Corvette T-Top Pilot Line Car (#15)

203X..1968 Corvette T-Top Pilot Line Car (#15), 327-300 hp, automatic, numbers match, (appears to be “The Real Deal”), 58,480 actual miles. Lemans Blue paint with Bright Blue interior. Body-off restored with newer paint, interior, exhaust, brakes, and tires. This preproduction/Pilot “escapee” car was built in 1967 with many early (April/May 1967) major components as the launch of the coupe was delayed until February 1968 (around VIN #10,000). This car is full of handmade parts and probably spent the first six months of its life at the Milford proving grounds doing body development duty. (author: John Hinckley) – - – WOW!!!??? Optioned with factory side exhaust, power steering, power brakes, telescopic, shoulder harness, posi, SS brakes, AM/FM radio, tinted windshield, rallys, and raised white lettered radials. Most all factory correct type components including the spare, seat belts, washer system, shifter, shielding, and air cleaner. Documented with restoration photos. From past owner of 24 years. This super rare early preproduction pilot line car is the fifteenth (15th) C-3 (1968 to 1982) ever built!!!! This is an important part of Corvette history as the 1968 launch was the ugliest of them all and is why Zora was brought back to Corvette for 1969 to steer the ship. Looks, runs, and drives excellent. CC:+2 $50,000.00 This is serial # fifteen (15)

Body-on restored with show paint, newer interior, top, chrome, exhaust, brakes, and tires. Also has recent rebuilt motor and extensive receipt file to back-up a most complete cosmetic and mechanical restoration. Optioned with power brakes, tilt-n-telescopic, transistorized ignition, black vinyl auxiliary hardtop, M-21, 3.55 posi, SS brakes, AM/FM radio, audio alarm, tinted glass, rallys, and raised white lettered radials. Most all factory correct type components including the spare, jack, jack tools, floor mats, seat belts, washer system, shifter, shielding, air cleaner, owners manual, and sales brochure. Documented with the dealer invoice, warranty pamphlet/P.O.P., tank sticker ( build sheet – still on tank), payment receipts, and restoration receipts. Great colors, great options, great condition, and great paperwork. Also has 2008 state safety inspection. How many real red 1970 LT-1′s with documentation have you ever seen? Very rare especially since only 1,287 LT-1′s were produced in 1970 with about one-third being convertibles. Looks, runs, and drives excellent. CC:1 $80,000.00
