1974 Corvette T-Top, VIN #1Z37J4S414XXX. The VIN # indicates this Corvette was built in January 1974, relatively early in the production year.

It is reported to have 127,377 original miles, not an inordinate amount of miles considering it has been on the street for 35 years.

This Corvette is Corvette Grey in color with a matching Grey cloth interior. The paint is considered to be good, but it has the traditional road chips in the front bumper area. Also the interior has the usual wear on the door panels, again not unusual for a Corvette with 100K+ miles.

It is powered by the standard 350-195 engine that is coupled with an automatic transmission. This combination was popular for the 1974 Corvette production with approximately 68% of the buyers selecting this motor and transmission combination.

This 1974 Corvette is nicely equipped with comfort and convenience driving options that include power steering, brakes, windows, A/C and a tilt-telescopic steering column. There is some question as to the working status of the A/C since the belts have been disconnected. In addition, the original radio equipment has been replaced with an after-market model.

This Corvette also has a rear chrome luggage carrier. This was a dealer installed option for the 1974 model year. The Corvette also has the original wheel trim and center caps; the tires appear to be in new condition.

Official 2010 Corvette Grand Sport Pricing Released

Offical 2010 Corvette Grand Sport Pricing Released

We got word today from Dave Salvatore of Kerbeck Corvette that pricing for the 2010 Corvette Grand Sport has been released. When the Grand Sport was introduced at the National Corvette Museum in April, Team Corvette members Harlan Charles and Tadge Juechter both said that people will be pleased when the final price is announced. Having seen the numbers, we see again why Corvette beats all sports cars in the performance per dollar category.

2010 Corvette Grand Sport Pricing:

  • 2010 Grand Sport Coupe starts at $55,720 including DFC
  • 2010 Grand Sport Convertible starts at $59,530 including DFC

Going off the current year pricing, that’s $6,205 more than the base Coupe and $5,360 for the base Convertible. Taking into account that we are expecting to see a pricing increase on the base coupe and convertibles, as well as the fact that the Grand Sport takes the place of the Z51 option which costs $1,695 and you are essentially looking at $3,665-4510 upgrade for the new wide-body design, complete with Z06 brakes, tuned suspension and a better 0-60 mph performance of 4.0 vs 4.2.

A quick check on some of the forums show that people are generally pleased with the pricing of the new model. Considering that most garage wide body conversions cost around $10,000, this new model should sell well.

Pricing on the Corvette models for 2010 should be forthcoming shortly which will also include pricing for the Z15 GS Heritage Package which will be available sometime in the fall.

These pictures of a 1960 Corvette were posted online at the Corvette Forum by a member looking for some pricing help on what to offer the owner. According to the poster, the motor is gone, but 95% of the other parts that are off the car are in one of several boxes. At one time, a new front clip was installed. The Corvette has a 4-speed transmission and 31,200 miles are on the odometer. The owner has had it since 1970 and its been stored in this barn for the last ten years.

1963 Corvette Sting Ray Convertible, VIN #30867S113XXX. 327/300 non-original motor, manual 4-speed transmission, 96K miles. Engine compartment in need of restoration. Transmission locked in reverse, mechanicals including brakes, clutch and suspension in poor condition. Electrical system needs to be rewired, Speedometer not working but tach, oil pressure and temperature gauges function correctly. The Corvette is painted Riverside Red and has a black vinyl interior. The Corvette was repainted sometime ago but is in excellent condition. The seats, carpet and dash are in good condition. Knock-off style wheels and a removable hard top that needs to be restored complete the options. The Corvette was purchased from a dealer and has mostly been sitting since 1984. No documentation or owner history available.

1963 Corvette Roadster with VIN #30867S113XXX. The VIN indicates this Corvette was built in April 1963, the eighth month of 1963 Corvette production. The mileage is stated to be over 96,000 miles.

The paint color is Riverside Red, the original color, however the Corvette has been repainted. The condition of the paint can be termed good as are the seats, door panels and dash. The interior is Black in color. Also, the carpet appears to be in new condition but it was installed over a hole in the floorboard that was not properly repaired. The tachometer, oil pressure and temperature gauges are in working order.

The Corvette is powered by a non-original small block Chevrolet motor that has been modified. It is coupled with a 4-speed manual transmission that is currently locked in the reverse position. Other mechanicals are in need of repair or replacement including the wiring harness, exhaust, suspension, brakes, clutch and headlight lid motors. In general, the exterior and interior of this Corvette have been addressed but the under carriage and engine compartment need restoration.

The exterior body panels are correct with no modifications. The chrome bumpers are correct and in good condition.

The curb appeal of the 1963 Roadster is enhanced with the addition of knock-off wheels and new tires. This Corvette also has the removable hardtop that is in need of repair.

This Corvette was purchased from a Corvette dealer in 1984 and has been in storage until this year. No owner history or documentation is available.

We place a value of $25,000 on this 1963 Corvette Roadster. It has the potential of continuing to increase in value at 5% in average price on an annual basis.

1979 Corvette T-Top, VIN #1Z8789S443XXX. The Vin indicates it was built late in the 1979 Corvette model production year assuring that any modifications or engineering changes would have been included in this Corvette.

Mileage of 58,905 is reported as original and correct; this is very low for a 1979 vintage Corvette.

This T-Top Corvette is Classic White in color, the paint being termed in good condition. The body panels are totally original reflecting no modifications. The White paint is complimented by a Red leather interior, also in good condition.

The 1979 Corvette T-Top is powered by the original L48 motor (350 ci/195 hp) that was the base motor in 1979 as indicated by the fifth digit in the VIN #, 8=L48 motor. This motor is coupled with an automatic transmission, a combination selected by the majority of the 1979 Corvette buyers.

This Corvette is well equipped with many of the comfort and convenience options including power steering, brakes, windows, door locks, tilt-telescopic steering column and air-conditioning.

The original radio has been replaced by an after-market unit, however the radio housing has not been modified.

From a documentation perspective, the original owner’s manual is intact.

Auction Results: 1988 35th Anniversary Corvette Sells For Record High

Only 9% of the Corvettes manufactured in 1988 received the Z01 35th Anniversary Package and the example that sold today at Barrett-Jackson’s Palm Beach auction could quite possibly be the nicest one in existence.

The 35th Anniversary Package featured a white exterior with white wheels, white seats and steering wheel as well as special emblems and a console mounted plaque. 2,050 Coupes were produced at an extra cost of $4,795 over the $29,489 base price.

Lot #38 was an original one owner Z01 optioned Corvette with only 682 miles. The 350/245 engine was coupled to a rare 4-speed manual transmission (MMF), an option chosen only 19%. For 21 years the Corvette was stored in a climate controlled environment.

The 35th Anniversary Corvette hammered home for $37,500 and with commission the final sales price was $41,250. This easily beats the high price for a 35th Anniversary edition of $32,100 at an RM Auction held in 1998 in Monterey as listed in the VetteMarket.com CP database.

Our Corvette Price Guide’s 2008 high for a 35th Anniversary Coupe was $28,000. In addition, the one year appreciation shows 1% growth over the previous year.

1972 Corvette Convertible, VIN # 1Z67W2S517XXX. The VIN indicates this Vette was built in April, 1972, the ninth month of the 1972 production period. This late production date indicates that any engineering changes or modifications were most likely included in this Corvette.

The mileage is reported to be 48,100 which is stated as original. This is quite a low number considering this Corvette was built 35 years ago.

This 1972 Convertible is powered by the original matching numbers 454-270 motor that is coupled with an automatic transmission. The 454 motor can be termed rare with only 14% of the buyers opting for this high performance motor option during the 1972 production.

The exterior is Steel Cities Gray in color and is combined with the Black leather optional interior. The paint and interior are both in good condition. The chrome bumpers are in excellent condition. It is equipped with several desirable options including power steering, power brakes, tilt-telescopic steering column and A/C.

In establishing an appraised value for this 1972 Corvette Convertible, many factors have been considered. First, the paint is unique and not a common color seen today despite the fact that 2,346 Corvettes were painted this color in 1972.

Second, the original matching numbers high performance motor was desirable. Adding to this Vette’s drivability was the addition of power steering and power brakes, the tilt and telescopic steering column as well as A/C. This is a nice combination of features.

Third, the original low mileage is a very positive factor in the value.

2009 Corvette Price Guide: C1-C6 Generational Pricing Highlights

In our final analysis of 2008’s Corvette prices, we present an overview of Corvette values by generation. This is an interesting time for Corvette buyers as many models are still showing appreciation despite the lagging market. And with some of the more collectible Corvettes giving back some of the pricing gains earned over the last couple of years, this could be a real buying opportunity for collectors and enthusiasts should the right Corvette present itself.

The following are highlights from our 2009 Corvette Price Guide:

1953-1962:
The first generation Corvettes had mixed results with some models showing a negative 5-7% depreciation factor, while on the plus side of the ledger appreciation results ranged for 2-9%. The high average price for this series was the 1953 Roadster at $294,500. At the low end of the price scale was the 1961 Roadster at an average price of $45,000, showing an appreciation factor of 2%. We expect the 1953 model to continue to show depreciation in average price with the majority of these solid axles showing positive results for the 2009 calendar year.

1963-1967:
The mid-years have regained the appreciation lead with all models showing an appreciation factor of 4-9%. The price leader in average price continues to be the 1967 Roadster at an average price of $61,000. The entry level price for the mid-years continues to be the 1964 Coupe at $35,000 in average price.

1968-1982:
The average price range for this generation of Corvettes starts at $9,200, the average price of a 1978 T- Top that showed no change in average price from last year. The average price for the series tops out at $29,500, the average price of the 1970 Roadster that showed an appreciation factor of 7%. The average price of the third generation Corvettes ranges from a depreciation factor of -8% to a +10% appreciation factor.

1984-1996:
There was quite a change last year in the average price for the fourth generation Corvette models. Our 2008 Price Guide showed many with single digit appreciation factors and a few in the double digit range. The 2009 Price Guide shows none in the appreciation column with two holding on as ‘no change’ in average price. Several are now showing double digit depreciation. The high average price for this series is $52,000, going to the 1996 Grand Sport Roadster. The low end is represented by the 1984 Coupe with an average price of $8,600 and a 1% depreciation factor. Hurting the average price of this series is the pricing of the C5 Corvettes with many selling under the $20,000 mark in average price.

1997-2004:
This series continues to show negative results in average price ranging from a -6% to -18%. The high average price for this series is $31,000, going to a 2003 Anniversary Roadster that showed a –9% depreciation factor. As we have said on numerous occasions, one buys a lot of Corvette power in this series for under $20,000. At some point soon, the double digit depreciation factors will improve to single digits.

2005-2009:
As expected, all models are showing double digit depreciation in average resale price. We don’t expect this to subside since average prices start at $31,500 for a 2005 Coupe and top out at $64,000 for the Ron Fellows Special Edition Z06. The state of the US economy will continue to have a major negative impact on the average price of these Corvettes.

Depreciating Corvettes: Top 10 Price Declines of 2008

1996 Corvette Grand Sport Roadster

Earlier this week we shared our Top 10 Price Gainers of 2008 and now it’s time to look at the other end of the spectrum. The 2008 top decliners is a diverse list that includes last year’s number 2 price gainer, the 1996 Corvette Grand Sport Roadster.

Data from the 2009 Corvette Price Guide comes from analyzing the selling prices of over 5,800 Corvettes during 2008 and then comparing the sales figures to years prior. That method has proven to be a statistically accurate measure of the Corvette Market.

On a comparative basis, not much has changed on the depreciation chart related to percentages since the 2007 chart last year. At that time, the percentages ranged from -14% to -20% very similar to the chart above. All of the Corvettes on the 2007 chart were C5s.

The current chart includes the addition of C4s and C6s. The continuation of C5s includes a new appearance of the 2003 models. Last year the 2004 models seemed to hold that same place with the C5 series. The big question is when will the C5s bottom out from a depreciation perspective?

The C5s are truly excellent buys for consumers who want to experience just how far the Corvette Team has gone in building a handling and performance Corvette with comfort and convenience feature without the big price tag.

The 1997-2002 models are priced below $24,000 in average price. One buys a lot of Corvette for these low prices.

The C6s have joined the depreciation group – but this is normal for newer models. However, given the incentive programs the dealers have to offer during these troubled times with the automotive industry these Vettes are showing accelerated depreciation beyond normal expectations.

We are sure you have noted the appearance of the 1996 Grand Sport Roadster at the top of the chart. After last year’s appearance on the appreciation chart with a 50% increase in average price, few are selling now and the ones that do sell are showing a 20% decrease from the highs reached just a year ago. But consider this – when new, the list price was approximately $48,000 compared to today’s average price of $52,000. Original buyers are still ahead of the game.

The C4 ZR-1s are in a “slide” mode with the 1995 as the last production year model, moving down into the mid- thirties. Part of the problem is that a 2004 Z06 that is pumping out 405 horsepower can be purchased below the $30,000 mark. Same horsepower with more options for $5,000 less!

Appreciating Corvettes: Top 10 Price Gainers of 2008

1976 Corvette Coupe

The 2008 Corvette Calendar was quite interesting starting with the continuation of record sales prices and appreciation factors. But the slowing economy in the second half of 2008 put the brakes on double digit appreciation for all but one Corvette model, the 1976 Corvette.

Data from the 2009 Corvette Price Guide comes from analyzing the selling prices of over 5,800 Corvettes during 2008 and then comparing the sales figures to years prior. That method has proven to be a statistically accurate measure of the Corvette Market.

Quite surprisingly, we found the 1976 Corvette at the top of our appreciation chart at 10% followed by the 1977 model at 9%. Evidently what we are seeing is renewed interest in the last of the traditional C3 body style models prior to the C3 change to a ‘fast back’ body style with the 1978-1982 models. It is also interesting to note the 1976 and 1977 T-Tops are selling at approximately $10-$12,000 LESS than the C3 chrome bumper Corvettes with the same body silhouette.

Seeing the 1962 Roadster and the 1963 Coupe near the top of the appreciation chart came as no surprise. Both had been priced below the $50,000 threshold in average price during the previous year.

The 1962 was unique, but not just because it was the last of the first generation body style. In addition, the popular 327 motor was introduced with this model.

In our opinion, the 1963 Coupe still remains underpriced at an average price of $54,500. With its unique split-window styling it should command more in today’s market. It looks like the buyers may be sharing our opinion based on its appreciation chart position at #3. This model was the only repeat Corvette shown on our 2007 chart last year.

Two other solid axles on this year’s chart, the 1957 and 1960 models, were new additions. The features of the 1957, with its ‘clean line’ styling and vast array of motor options, were instrumental in its appearance on this year’s chart. The 1960 continues to be a popular model with its ‘last of the notable grill’ treatment. It, too, has crossed the $50,000 threshold at an average price of $50,400.

The mid-years continue to show their popularity with the appearance of six models on this year’s chart. Note that four of the six are priced below $50,000 in average price. It appears that in the near future, those below $45,000 will be considered to be a good buy. Today that threshold is $35,000.

As we so often indicate, the 1964 Roadster model is the entry mid-level Corvette based on price. Despite this fact, it too has moved to the appreciation chart. Its counterpart, the Coupe, is on the good buy threshold at $35,000 in average price.

One third generation Corvette, the 1970 Roadster, made this year’s chart at an average price of $29,500. These are few in number as a work stoppage during the 1969 model year extended production of the 1969 and shortened the 1970 production year to seven months. There were 6,648 Roadsters built in 1970 compared to 16,633 produced during the 1969 model year.
