There is a song by Pearl Jam called “Soon Forget” that opens with these lines: “Sorry is the fool who trades his soul for a corvette. Thinks he’ll get the girl he’ll only get the mechanic.” I was immediately reminded of those lyrics when I came across this 1958 Corvette barn car that was sold at a Canadian auction over the weekend.

Our recent batch of celebrity-owned Corvettes for sale continues to grow. First it was Slash’s black 1966 coupe. Next up was Ace Frehley’s ’78 Pace Car. Now currently on EBay is a 1970 Corvette built for Hollywood’s Farrah Fawcett by hot rod guru George Barris.
This 2010 Cyber Gray Corvette ZR1 put its front end into some unknown immovable object, shearing the drivers rear chrome wheel off the axle and triggering the airbag. Hope the driver was okay. Now its sitting in a California salvage yard with an estimated repair bill of over $70,000. The good news for you fixer-uppers is that its offered for sale with a salvage title.
Guns N’ Roses guitarist Slash isn’t the only hard rocking musician to have a classic Corvette for sale. A 1978 Indy 500 Corvette Pace Car that was purchased new and owned by the former lead guitarist of KISS, Ace Frehley is currently listed on eBay. The Corvette is being sold by Ace’s brother-in-law, who was presented the car in 1980 as a high school graduation gift.
Former Guns N’ Roses guitarist Slash has teamed up with Beverly Hills auction house Juliens Auctions to sell a wide range of his personal property to fans and collectors. In addition to 15 guitars, furniture and other memorabilia, the lot that is sure to generate buzz is a Tuxedo Black 1966 Corvette Coupe that the musician calls a “Monster of a Car”. The auction takes place on March 26th with a sizable share of the proceeds going to charity.
One of the things I love about Corvettes is that you can learn something new every day about them as well as how they fit it to all different niches of America’s car culture in general. For me, today’s lesson comes from the term “Murdered Out” which the Urban Dictionary describes as a vehicle that is black with black wheels and looks very intimidating. So I think you’ll agree this 2004 Matte-Black Corvette Z06 easily fits that description.
As a 1966 Corvette owner, I have a special affinity for other ’66 Vettes. So when I was walking the auction staging area at the 2011 Mecum Kissimmee auction last week I came to dead stop when my eyes fell upon this beautiful 1966 L36 427/390 hp Corvette Convertible painted in Laguna Blue.
This ermine white and blue stripe 1961 Corvette was built for one reason – racing. A radio/heater delete car, this Corvette came from the factory equipped with a solid-lifter 315 horsepower fuel injected 283 ci engine and is one of 233 Corvettes with RPO 687 – the special heavy duty brakes and suspension package. Last weekend, this vintage 1961 Competition-spec Corvette Race car was sold at Mecum’s 2011 Kissimmee auction for $55,000.
This Riverside Gold 1969 Corvette equipped with a 427/435 hp L89 aluminum-head optioned Corvette was sold with no reserve at Saturday’s Mecum Auction in Kissimmee, Florida for $62,000. A low mileage Corvette, this big-block is documented with the tank sticker as well as owner history and appraisals.
