We first told you about the Corvette-based SV 9 Competizione back in the summer of 2009. At that time there were plans to build as many as 1,000 of the custom coaches for just under $100,000 apiece. That was before SV Motors’ boss was indicted on investment fraud charges. It appears that just 4 of the carbon fiber-bodied cars were ever built. You’ve got your chance to score one member of that quartet at Mecum’s Monterey auction next week in California.
As we rapidly close in on the middle of August we also close on in the annual auction frenzy that takes place during Monterey Week. Over the next several days we’ll take a look at some of the unique Corvettes being offered next week in California. First up is the legendary Owens-Corning L88 Racer. The car, generally considered to be the most successful racing Corvette of all time, is being auctioned at RM’s Monterey sale on Friday, August 17th. Get your banker on the phone now as this one won’t be cheap.
During the run-up to the sale of the 2009 Corvette ZR1, we saw many buyers turning to eBay to secure their chance to buy the 638-horsepower sports car. Both dealers and individual sellers jumped into the fray and we saw some outrageous auctions designed to play off the hype and “want factor” of those who wanted to be among the first to own.
That’s all well and good when the car is actually in production and for sale, but here is a case of an individual attempting to auction a 2014 C7 Corvette – the next generation Corvette that’s not expected to arrive at dealers for another year or so.
By definition, a supernova is the explosion of a star during which the star’s luminosity can increase by up to 20 times and most of the star’s mass is blown away at a high velocity. By our definition, a Corvette racecar can explode around treacherous racing circuits at equally high velocities. Here’s your chance to buy a 1964 Corvette racer dubbed Supernova at Russo and Steele’s upcoming auction in Monterey, California next month.
If you’re looking for a 1978 Corvette Pace Car that is a great candidate for NCRS or Bloomington Gold certification, then Mike Yager at Mid America Motorworks has just the car for you.
Mike and his team bought the car for just those reasons, but he says they’ve just been too busy restoring other cars and don’t have room for this Pace Car.
The Barrett-Jackson Collector Car auction held over the weekend in Orange County, California appeared to be another success. A final talley of 25 Corvettes ranging from a 1957 roadster to a 1996 Coupe were offered at the 3rd annual sale in Southern California and when it was said it done, sales of Corvettes totaled just over $1.2 Million.
There’s a serious affliction slowly taking a hold of the Unites States which some people may not be aware of. This situation could very quickly turn into an epidemic. What is this serious concern? It’s the fact that hundreds of Chevrolet Corvettes are actively looking for a new, caring home. To help combat this problem, Mecum Auctions holds their annual Bloomington Gold all-Corvette auction each year in June. The 2012 version takes place this Saturday June 23rd at the Pheasant Run Resort in St. Charles, IL.
June 30th, 1953: the very first Corvette reaches the end of the assembly line in Flint, Michigan. Just 299 additional cars would be produced that year. Although no firm numbers exist, it’s generally assumed that 200 or so still remain in existence today. They don’t come up for sale very often, so act quickly as here is your chance to score VIN #244 while it’s for sale on eBay.
